A method for making a rotor for an electric motor. An elastomeric ring loosely slides over a motor shaft and inside a flux ring. End plates are attached to the longitudinal ends of the flux ring so as to longitudinally compress the elastomeric ring which radially inwardly expands against the motor shaft and radially outwardly expands against the flux ring. In a modification, the flux ring has a smaller-diameter annular disk near each of its longitudinal ends, and each attaching end plate longitudinally compresses a longitudinally-shorter elastomeric ring against a corresponding smaller-diameter annular disk.

The joint includes a body, the body including an outer surface and an inner surface. The outer surface has an aerodynamic contour that generally corresponds to an aerodynamic contour of the first blade segment and the second blade segment. The body includes a pressure side and a suction side extending between a leading edge and a trailing edge. In some embodiments, the joint further includes a channel defined in the outer surface of the body. The channel includes a generally continuous base wall extending between opposing sidewalls. The inner surface includes the base wall. In other embodiments, the joint further includes a channel defined in the body, and a shell extending from the body in a generally span-wise direction.

The permanent magnet layer is semi-restricted between the shaft and the retainer. In one embodiment, the magnet layer includes a molded ring magnet. In another embodiment, the magnet layer includes a plurality of magnet segments which can be situated on the rotor in rotor pockets or in a rotor cage. The bond between the retainer and the rotor can be enabled by a cap or by support elements. A high conductivity material can be situated over the retainer with the combination of the retainer and the high conductivity material having a resistivity high enough to minimize space harmonic losses and low enough to minimize time harmonic losses. The high conductivity material can also be applied to induction rotors for excluding high frequency components while permitting penetration of low frequency torque producing fields.
