    Abstract: One embodiment provides a method that includes optimizing a shape for a port tube of a speaker device by varying a portion of multiple initial port tube design parameters and iteratively repeating an execution of a simulation computing process that simulates shear measure until the execution of the simulation computing process minimizes the simulated shear measure and outputs a final port tube design for an improved port tube having an optimized central portion and an optimized flare shape of at least one flared exit based on multiple final port tube design parameters for an improved shape for the port tube that maximally delays an onset of turbulence and flow separation for improved low frequency output for the speaker device. The improved port tube is generated using the multiple final port tube design parameters.

    Abstract: One embodiment provides a waveguide for controlling sound directivity of high frequency sound waves generated by a speaker driver. The waveguide is positioned in front of the speaker driver. The waveguide comprises one or more ridge areas, one or more recess areas, and one or more smooth surfaces. Each smooth surface connects a ridge area to a recess area to create a smooth transition between the ridge area and the recess area without any seams or sharp transitions. The waveguide shapes propagation of the sound waves to provide a smooth off-axis frequency response for the sound waves.

    Abstract: One embodiment provides a speaker device comprising a first housing including a first top surface comprising a first opening, a first recessed mounting surface spaced below the first opening, and a first recessed sidewall extending upwardly from the first recessed mounting surface to the first opening to form a first waveguide. The speaker device further comprises a first upward-facing driver mounted into the first recessed mounting surface. The first waveguide shapes propagation of acoustic energy generated by the first upward-facing driver to project the acoustic energy out of the speaker device in an upwardly inclined direction.
