Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for protecting a wireless power receiver from excessive temperature caused by charging are provided. The wireless power receiver includes a power receiver for receiving wireless power in an Alternate Current (AC) form from a wireless power transmitter; a regulator for regulating the wireless power; a power management unit for controlling charging by providing the regulated wireless power to a battery; a temperature measurement unit for measuring a temperature of a point in the wireless power receiver during reception of the wireless power; and a controller configured to provide a control signal for the wireless power receiver to be charged with a regulated charging power if a temperature measured by the temperature measurement unit exceeds a preset temperature.
Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for are provided for a wireless power receiver. The method includes receiving power from a wireless power transmitter; converting the power in an alternating current (AC) form into a direct current (DC) form and providing the converted power to a battery of the electronic device; measuring a temperature of a point in the wireless power receiver during reception of the wireless power; maintaining an amount of the converted power at a first level if the temperature is lower than a first temperature; decreasing the amount of the converted power to a second level which is lower than the first level if the amount of the converted power is at the first level and the temperature is higher than or equal to the first temperature; stopping providing the converted power to the battery if the temperature is higher than a second temperature; and transmitting, to the wireless power transmitter, a signal including status information of the wireless power receiver device and control information to control the wireless power transmitter.
Abstract:
A method of controlling a wireless power receiver. The method includes receiving, by a power receiver, power from a wireless power transmitter; receiving, from the wireless power transmitter, a time set value that is set for checking cross connection; in response to receiving the time set value, generating a power variation in the wireless power receiver by converting a load status from a first load status to a second load status; and maintaining the second load status for a time corresponding to the received time set value.
Abstract:
A method for generating a load variation for detecting a wireless power receiving unit in wireless charging is provided. The method includes maintaining a switch connected to a dummy load in an ON state by the wireless power receiving unit, receiving wireless power from a wireless power transmitting unit, and, upon receiving the wireless power, switching the switch connected to the dummy load to an OFF state.
Abstract:
Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for charging power using a resonant coupling. The apparatus includes a transmission power converter for converting Direct Current (DC) power to Alternating Current (AC) power, a controller for adjusting a Q factor of a transmission resonator by using a frequency of the converted AC power and a resonant frequency of the transmission resonator and controlling adaptive impedance matching, and a transmission resonator for wirelessly transmitting the converted AC power to a receiver through the adjusted Q factor and the controlled adaptive impedance matching, the transmission resonator having a coil installed in the transmitter.
