Abstract: A method and system that enhances a service life of a battery is provided. The method includes values of a set of operational characteristics of a plurality of electrochemically active materials of at least one electrode of the battery. The set of operational characteristics include a voltage, a change in accumulated energy, a change in ohmic resistance, and a change in a rate of change in accumulated energy with respect to a rate of change in ohmic resistance. The values are compared with predefined values of the set of operational characteristics. A rate of depletion and a type of depletion of each of the plurality of electrochemically active materials are determined, and a range of the State of Charge, a range of the voltage, and a range of current to operate the battery for enhanced service life are determined.

Abstract: Provided is a method of estimating a short resistance of a target battery associated with a battery-driven device. The method includes: determining voltage values of the target battery within a time period during a charging or discharging state of the target battery, wherein the time period is associated with a constant resistance value within the target battery; comparing the voltage values with reference voltage values associated with a reference battery; based on the comparing, determining, for the pre-defined time period, a magnitude of a voltage deviation of the target battery with respect to the reference battery; detecting a short circuit in the target battery based on the determined magnitude of the voltage deviation; and estimating the short resistance associated with the short circuit of the target battery based on the constant resistance value and the magnitude of the voltage deviation.

A method of estimating a battery parameter of a battery for a rest period of the battery includes: based on determining that an intercalation flux of the battery satisfies a predetermined condition, calculating an open circuit voltage (OCV) of the battery, wherein the OCV is calculated based on an initial voltage, a first time constant corresponding to a positive electrode of the battery, a second time constant corresponding to a negative electrode of the battery, a first constant, a second constant, and a value of a time variable for the rest period; and estimating the battery parameter based on the calculated OCV of the battery.

A method of detecting a short circuit in a battery includes: triggering a rest phase of the battery, determining a first time constant related to a rest voltage of the battery when the battery may be in the rest phase, estimating a first short-resistance value by comparing the first time constant with a second time constant related to a voltage of the battery, and making a short circuit determination for the battery based on a result of comparing the first short-resistance value and a second short-resistance value, wherein the first time constant and the second time constant may be determined with reference to either a temperature range or a charging range of the electronic device.
