摘要: A user's domain expertise may be estimated through several factors by monitoring different aspects of a user's interaction with a web browser. Based on the user's domain expertise, search results may be presented to the user that is commensurate with their expertise, resulting in a more efficient and productive on line session. A user's expertise in a knowledge domain may be determined from the user's behavior, including analyzing search queries, monitoring how the user navigates between and through websites, and analyzing the specific cites visited. As a user interacts with a browser, the user's estimated domain expertise may be updated and used to provide appropriate and useful search results. In many embodiments, a user may have different expertise levels for different technical domains.

摘要: Search and browse trails are temporally-ordered sequences of web pages visited by a user during post-search query navigation beginning with a page associated with one of the search results. The trails can provide useful information for a number of search-related purposes. For example, these trails can be used to leverage the post-query behavior of other users to help the current user search more effectively and allow them to make more informed search interaction decisions. The trails can also be used to establish search results and refine search result rankings, select and evaluate deeplinks, and recommend multi-step trails as an alternative to or enhancement for existing search result presentation techniques.

摘要: It has been found that user navigation that follows search engine interactions provides implicit endorsement of resources (such as web resources) that are preferred by users, and which may be particularly valuable for exploratory search tasks. Thus, a combination of past searching and browsing user behavior is analyzed to identify additional information that augments search results delivered by a search engine. The additional information may include a display of hyperlinks to locations which are derived from the past searching and browsing user behavior, given a specific input query. The additional information may be provided to supplement web search results.

摘要: Escalations in users' goals or concerns in web-based searching and browsing may be predicted. An escalation feature is extracted from a webpage and run through a classifier trained to estimate a likelihood that a subsequent search query will comprise an escalation when compared to a previous search query and/or that a subsequent webpage selection will comprise an escalation when compared to a previous webpage selection. It can thus be predicted whether a user visiting a current webpage is likely to escalate or navigate to another webpage based upon the current webpage, for example.

摘要: One or more techniques and/or systems are disclosed for predicting escalations in users' goals or concerns in web-based searching and browsing. One or more escalation features are extracted from a webpage. The one or more escalation features are run through a classifier trained to estimate a likelihood of escalation. An escalation likelihood result is generated from running the trained classifier using the extracted features. The escalation likelihood result can comprise an estimation that a subsequent search query will comprise an escalation when compared to a previous search query. The escalation likelihood result can also comprise an estimation that a subsequent webpage selection will comprise an escalation when compared to a previous webpage selection.

摘要: Described is a search technology in which a search engine constructs a results page for a query that integrates suggested queries with the individual query results (e.g., displayed URLs). When rendered, the proximity of the suggested queries to their corresponding individual query result provides context as to the specific URL to which the suggested query is related. Suggested queries may appear alongside their associated search result, e.g., a displayed URL, and/or in an expandable panel proximate that individual search result. Suggested queries may appear within text accompanying a URL, and/or in a drop down menu following interaction with such text or the like. Related queries may be found by using a search result URL to find a query, by analyzing a search result's text snippet, by accessing historical data, and/or by accessing current user session data.
