    Abstract: An in-line dust shutter formed as part an adapter. A hinged dust shutter assembly is secured to an adapter wall. A shutter plate covers an opening formed at either end of the adapter to prevent debris from entering the adapter and distorting the light signal between opposing fiber optic connectors. The shutter plate extends at angle alpha from a rotational axis. The shutter plate is biased closed by a bias spring place about a pin of the rotational axis.

    Abstract: A multiple fiber push-on (MPO) optical connector is provided having a ferrule configured to house multiple optical fibers and including a stepped portion extending from at least one pair of opposing exterior surfaces of the ferrule. A one-piece housing-backpost is provided having a distal end in a connection direction and a proximal end in a cable direction. The one-piece housing-backpost is configured to receive a ferrule spring and the ferrule from the distal end. The housing-backpost includes at least one resiliently-deformable ferrule-retaining protrusion extending from a sidewall to engage the corresponding stepped portion of the ferrule. The resiliently-deformable ferrule-retaining protrusion is configured to deform towards the housing-backpost interior sidewall as the ferrule is inserted from the distal end and to extend outward against the stepped portion of the ferrule when the ferrule is seated in the housing-backpost to maintain the ferrule in the housing-backpost.

    Abstract: An adapter based connector polarity changer is described. A hook insert is placed into an adapter receptacle at a first end or second, and is removable with a removal tool. A hook insert may be permanently placed into an adapter receptacle. The hook insert oriented in the receptacle in a first position and with a first mating structure interconnects with corresponding connector second mating structure to configure the connector in a first polarity, and the hook insert removed and oriented in a second position with the first mating structure interconnects with corresponding connector second mating structure to configure the connector in a second polarity.

    Abstract: A fiber optic adapter includes an adapter housing defining a connector port for mating with a fiber optic connector in either of two connector polarity orientations. A polarity cap is releasably securable to the adapter housing in either of two adapter polarity orientations, each of which only permits insertion of the connector in one respective connector polarity orientation. The changing polarity of the adapter is facilitated by removing the polarity cap from the adapter housing, inverting the polarity cap, and reinstalling the inverted polarity cap.

    Abstract: An optical fiber connector can terminate a plurality of optical fiber cables, each with a jacket encasing at least one optical fiber and a strength element.     Abstract: In a connector for terminating a cable, a connector housing has a rear end portion including a first shoulder. An inner connector assembly is received in the connector housing. The inner connector assembly includes at least one ferrule exposed and a back body with a back post. At least one strength member is secured to the back post. A rear bracing member is received in the connector housing. The rear bracing member has a front end portion and a rear end portion spaced apart along the longitudinal axis. The front end portion of the rear bracing member is configured to engage the back body and the rear end portion of the rear bracing member is configured to engage the first shoulder of the connector housing such that the rear bracing member substantially braces the back body against rearward displacement along the longitudinal axis relative to the connector housing.

    Abstract: A connection system for a printed circuit board employs either an inline or transverse board-mounted connector for holding board-mounted optical fibers. A plug-in connector can blind mate with the board-mounted connector. The plug-in connector has a plug-in connector body, a plug-in ferrule, and a plug-in ferrule holder. The plug-in holder latches with the plug-in connector body at either of two positions to selectively configure the plug-in connector for blind mating with either the inline or transverse board-mounted connector.     Abstract: An optoelectronic module and optoelectronic connector assemblies can be used for releasable connection of a laser source to the module from a location exterior to the module. The construction of the optoelectronic connector assemblies is such that both in connection and disconnection, the electrical contacts are broken before the optical contacts so that the laser may power down before the optical connection is broken. The optoelectronic connection assemblies have blind mating features. Some versions are free of any latching or mechanical interconnection of the optoelectronic connector assemblies to each other. A spring has a construction which permits it to be received onto a cable by lateral movement of the spring.
