Abstract: The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device capable of suppressing display unevenness around a seal in the case of performing PS treatment on a horizontal alignment film formed from a photoactive material. The method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes the steps of: forming a horizontal alignment film containing a photoactive material on at least one substrate of a pair of substrates; dropping a liquid crystal composition containing a liquid crystal material and a monomer on one of the pair of substrates, the monomer being contained in an amount of 1.0% by weight or less in the whole liquid crystal composition; curing a sealing material applied to one substrate of the pair of substrates along an outer edge thereof by irradiating the sealing material with light whose wavelength is 40 nm or more longer than an absorption wavelength edge of the monomer; and forming a polymer layer that controls the alignment of liquid crystal molecules adjacent thereto on the horizontal alignment film by irradiating the liquid crystal composition sealed between the pair of substrates with light to polymerize the monomer.

Abstract: A method of producing a liquid crystal cell includes: a thin-film forming step of forming, on a surface of one electrode-attached substrates including a TFT substrate and a slot substrate, the TFT substrate including a first dielectric substrate, TFTs, and patch electrodes electrically connected to the TFTs, the slot substrate including a second dielectric substrate and a slot electrode supported on the second dielectric substrate and having slots, a thin film so as to cover the patch electrodes and/or the slot electrode; and a light irradiating step of irradiating the thin film with light including p-polarized light to provide the thin film with alignment-regulating capability of aligning liquid crystal molecules to thereby obtain an alignment film. The thin film includes a polymer including a photoreactive functional group and exhibiting the alignment-regulating capability of the thin film in a direction orthogonal to a polarization axis of the p-polarized light.

The liquid crystal display device includes: an active-matrix liquid crystal panel; and a backlight, the liquid crystal panel including a liquid crystal layer, paired substrates holding the liquid crystal layer in between, and alignment films disposed on the liquid crystal layer side surfaces of the respective substrates, the alignment films each being a photo-alignment film formed from a material exhibiting photo-alignment performance, the liquid crystal layer containing a liquid crystal material and a radical scavenger.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for producing a liquid crystal display device which can produce a liquid crystal display device with favorable voltage holding ratio reliability and reduced image sticking. The method is for producing a liquid crystal display device, which is a horizontal alignment-mode liquid crystal display device including a drive substrate provided with paired electrodes and a counter substrate, the method including: an application step of applying an alignment film material to the surface of each of the drive substrate and the counter substrate; a photo-alignment treatment step of irradiating the applied alignment film material with light; a post-baking step of baking the alignment film material having been subjected to the photo-alignment treatment to form an alignment film on the surface of each of the drive substrate and the counter substrate; and an additional irradiation step of irradiating the alignment films with light, the alignment film material containing a polymer with a (meth)acrylic backbone and a photo-functional group that undergoes a dimerization or cross-linking reaction by photo-irradiation, the additional irradiation step irradiating the alignment film formed on the surface of the counter substrate with an irradiation dose higher than the irradiation dose for the alignment film formed on the surface of the drive substrate.
