An image forming method has developing an electrostatic latent image on an electrostatic latent image bearing member by the use of a toner containing a wax component, to form a toner image on the electrostatic latent image bearing member; transferring the toner image to the surface of a recording medium; and fixing the toner image on the recording medium, to the recording medium. The recording medium has a laminated film having a substrate layer and a wax component absorption layer for absorbing a wax component contained in the toner. The wax component absorption layer is formed of a resin capable of inhibiting crystal growth of the wax component. The wax component absorption layer is capable of absorbing the wax component contained in the toner when the toner image is fixed to the recording medium.

The toner contains polymerizable vinyl monomer or a mixture of organic solvent and polymerizable vinyl monomer in an amount of not more than 1,000 ppm. A color toner for developing electrostatic images is formed of color toner particles each including a binder resin, a polyalkylene, and a colorant. The color toner particles are formed by suspension polymerization. The polyalkylene is characterized by having a crystallinity of 10-50% and a melting enthalpy (as measured by a differential scanning calorimeter) of at most 35 cal/g. The color toner is characterized by an improved fixability without causing offset especially at a relatively low temperature and suitable for providing a transparency film for an overhead projection.

The ester wax includes ester compounds represented by a formula ofR.sub.1 --COO--R.sub.2,wherein R.sub.1 an R.sub.2 independently denote a hydrocarbon group of 15-45 carbon atoms. The ester wax contains 50-95 wt. % thereof of ester compounds having an identical number of total carbon atoms. The toner is especially characterized by low-temperature fixability, wide non-offset temperature range, good color mixing characteristic and transparency.

An electrophotographic toner is formed of toner particles each comprising at least a binder resin, a colorant and a release agent, and a low-crystalline aromatic metal compound present at surfaces of the toner particles. The toner has an average circularity of at least 0.955, and the low-crystalline aromatic metal compound has an X-ray diffraction characteristic free from peaks exhibiting a measurement intensity of at least 10000 cps and a half-value half-width of at most 0.3 deg. in a range of measurement angles 2&thgr; of 6 to 40 deg. Because of the low crystallinity, the aromatic metal compound is uniformly applied onto the toner particle surfaces to stabilize the chargeability and transferability of the toner.

A toner for developing electrostatic images includes (a) toner particles having a weight-average particle size of 1-9 .mu.m, (b) hydrophobized inorganic fine powder having an average particle size of 10-90 nm and (c) hydrophobized silicon compound fine powder. The hydrophobized silicon compound fine powder has an average particle size of 30-120 nm, and a particle size distribution such that it contains 15-45% by number of particles having sizes of 5-30 nm, 30-70% by number of particles having sizes of 30-60 nm and 5-45% by number of particles having sizes of at least 60 nm. The hydrophobized silicon compound fine powder having a broad particle size distribution including coarse particles functions to prevent the embedding of the hydrophobized inorganic fine powder (functioning as a flowability improver) from being embedded at the toner particle surfaces, whereby the toner is allowed to exhibit stable performances even in a continuous image formation on a large number of sheets.

A toner for developing an electrostatic image includes: 100 wt. parts of a binder resin, 1-150 wt. parts of a colorant and a relatively large amount of 5-40 wt. parts of a low-softening point substance. The toner is further characterized by viscoelastic properties including: a storage modulus at 60.degree. C. (G'.sub.60) and a storage modulus at 80.degree. C. (G'.sub.80) providing a ratio (G'.sub.60 /G'.sub.80) of at least 80, and a storage modulus at 155.degree. C. (G'.sub.155) and a storage modulus at 190.degree. C. (G'.sub.190) providing a ratio (G'.sub.155 /G'.sub.190) of 0.95-5. As a result, the toner shows good low-temperature fixability and anti-offset characteristic, and also little temperature-dependence of gloss.
