    摘要: A slot coating die (10) is provided, comprising an upper die half (12) and a lower die half (14) attached together with a shim (16) disposed therebetween, each die half extending along an axis (18) and having a front and a back. The front of the upper die half includes a movable lip insert (22) extending substantially the entire width thereof and movable with respect to the upper die half toward and away from the front of the upper die half in a direction generally perpendicular to the axis. At least one adjustable die opening (20), which is adjustable independently of the movable lip insert, is defined by the upper and lower die halves and the shim plate disposed therebetween. A plurality of push-pull bolts (30) provide a coarse adjustment mechanism for adjusting the relative positions of the lower and upper die halves with respect to each other in a direction generally parallel to that in which the movable lip insert may be moved. A plurality of springs (128) loaded screws (124) spaced along the width of the upper die half provide a fine adjust mechanism by which the lip insert is made movable in that direction.

    摘要: A method and apparatus are disclosed for controlling the density of dispensed hot melt thermoplastic adhesive foam in order to assure uniform foam characteristics. In order to create the hot melt adhesive foam, air or any relatively inert gas is mixed with the thermoplastic adhesive while the adhesive is in the molten state, and the mixture is then pressurized so as to force the gas into solution with the molten adhesive. As the molten adhesive/gas solution is dispensed at atmospheric pressure, the gas is released from solution and becomes entrapped in the adhesive so as to form a homogenous closed cellular adhesive foam. According to the practice of this invention, the supply of gas is periodically discontinued so as to prevent an excess volume of gas from being admixed with the molten adhesive whenever foamed adhesive is not being dispensed, thereby stabilizing the density of the adhesive foam.

    摘要: A gas/liquid mixer in which intermeshing gears are caused to rotate and establish mixing, by pressure of the fluids being mixed. The gears are mounted for rotation in a gear chamber and interengage in a meshing zone of the chamber. A gas is introduced into the chamber through a gas inlet which is adjacent to one end of the meshing zone. A liquid inlet enters the chamber between the gas inlet and an outlet which is positioned adjacent a second or opposite end of the mixing zone. The gears are rotated in the chamber by the introduction and expansion of the gas and liquid in the spaces between the gear teeth. Flow regulating means controls the gas/liquid ratio. The apparatus is useful, among other purposes, for mixing a soluble gas with molten hot melt adhesive, directly adjacent the nozzle of a dispenser for preparing a hot melt foam.

    摘要: A rotary coater device (12) is provided, comprising front and rear frame plates (30) having mounted therebetween: a die bracket assembly (100), a screen assembly (200), a heater hood assembly (300), and an impression roll assembly (400). The die bracket assembly (100) includes (i) a die (500) positionable within a screen (202) and having an opening (550), the die being movable from an operating position wherein the die opening is proximate to an inner surface of the screen to an idle position wherein the die is drawn away from the inner surface; and (ii) a pivotable support arm (102a) fixedly attached at one end to a positioning mechanism (112) and removably attached at an opposite end to the die, the pivotable support arm being pivotable away from the screen when the opposite end is detached from the die to expose the screen for removal from the coater device. The screen assembly (200) supports the cylindrical screen in an operating axial position about a first axis (127), and includes (i) at least one guide wheel (206) engageable with the screen and (ii) a retractable support arm (238) pivotable about an axis (72) from a first position wherein the at least one guide wheel is engaged with the screen in the operating axial position, to a second position wherein the at least one guide wheel is disengaged from the screen. The heater hood assembly (300) assures an evenly heated outer surface of the screen. The impression roll assembly (400) includes an impression roll (402) which provides a backing for a web to be coated by the coater device.

    摘要: Apparatus for melting and dispensing thermoplastic material including a hopper for receiving solid thermoplastic material, a flow-through grid melter secured to the bottom of the hopper and a heated reservoir mounted beneath the grid melter. The reservoir has a bottom discharge opening through which molten thermoplastic material is supplied to a pump. To control the temperature of molten material supplied to the pump, there is a deflector shield over the bottom discharge opening of the reservoir. This shield has downwardly and outwardly sloping top surfaces operable to force molten material falling onto the shield to flow outwardly over the top surface of the shield and then downwardly and inwardly over the top surface of the bottom wall of the reservoir before flowing into the outlet opening of the reservoir. To input desired temperatures for the grid and reservoir into the apparatus and to read out temperature data, there is a control console mounted atop the housing of the apparatus. This console is pivotally and vertically adjustable and facilitates operator interface with the apparatus.
