A catalytic hydrocracking process for the production of lube base oil wherein a hydrocarbonaceous feedstock is contacted with hydrogen and a metal promoted hydrocracking catalyst in a hydrocracking reaction zone at elevated temperature and pressure to obtain conversion to higher hydrogen-content hydrocarbons including lube base oil. The resulting hot, uncooled effluent from the hydrocracking reaction zone is hydrogen stripped in a hot, high pressure stripping zone maintained at essentially the same pressure as the hydrocracking zone to produce a first gaseous hydrocarbonaceous stream and a first liquid hydrocarbonaceous stream. At least a portion of the first gaseous hydrocarbonaceous stream is condensed to produce a second liquid hydrocarbonaceous stream and a second hydrogen-rich gaseous stream. The first liquid hydrocarbonaceous stream is preferably separated at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure to provide at least one lube base oil product stream.

The invention is a hydrocracking process which employs a small reactor-containing hydrotreating catalyst to reduce the recombinant mercaptan content and/or smoke point of a product recovered from the effluent of the hydrocracking reactor. The entire effluent of the hydrocracking reactor is first cooled by indirect heat exchange and then passed through the hydrotreating catalyst. The effluent of the hydrotreating catalyst then continues throughout the customary cooling and separation steps employed in the product recovery system.

A process for the simultaneous production of lubricating blending stocks by means of hydrocracking a hydrocarbon feedstock in a first hydrocracking zone to convert at least a portion of the heavy hydrocarbon feedstock to produce an effluent stream containing lube oil boiling range hydrocarbons. One portion of the effluent stream is directly removed from the first hydrocracking zone to produce high quality lube oil blending stocks. Another portion of the effluent stream from the first hydrocracking zone is directly introduced into a second hydrocracking zone without intermediate separation. The second hydrocracking zone is utilized to further crack the feed to produce motor fuel.

The hydrotreated vacuum gas oil is good FCC feedstock. Naphtha and ultra low sulfur diesel are recovered in a common fractionation column.

Methods are disclosed for the hydrotreating and hydrocracking of highly aromatic distillate feeds such as light cycle oil (LCO) to produce ultra low sulfur gasoline and diesel fuel. Optimization of hydrotreater severity improves the octane quality of the gasoline or naphtha fraction. In particular, the operation of the hydrotreater at reduced severity to allow at least about 20 ppm by weight of organic nitrogen into the hydrocracker feed is shown to lead to these important benefits. Post-treating of the hydrocracker effluent over an additional hydrotreating catalyst bed may be desired to meet specifications for ultra low sulfur fuel components.

The second feedstock and the first vaporous hydrocarbonaceous stream are hydroprocessed in a hydroprocessing zone to produce a hydroprocessing zone effluent. A third feedstock and the first liquid hydrocarbonaceous stream are hydrocracked in a hydrocracking zone to produce a hydrocracking zone effluent. The hydrocracking zone effluent and the hydroprocessing zone effluent are separated to recover hydrocracked hydrocarbons.
