    Abstract: A distress detection system includes a data repository operable to collect sensor data from a monitored system. The distress detection system also includes an analysis system with a processing system operable to access a first parameter of a first system of the monitored system from the data repository and access a second parameter of the first system of the monitored system from the data repository. The processing system is also operable to apply fuzzy reasoning rules to evaluate a combination of the first parameter and the second parameter to determine an in-range interaction with respect to a second system of the monitored system as fuzzy metric data points, classify a component of the second system as being in distress based on comparing the fuzzy metric data points to a limit line, and assert a component distress indicator responsive to classifying the component of the second system as being in distress.

    Abstract: An optical foreign object detection (FOD) system for a gas turbine engine includes a multiple of emitters arranged about an inner periphery of a fan cowl, a multiple or receivers arranged about the inner periphery of the fan cowl, each of the multiple of receivers receiving a beam from one of the multiple of emitters to form a beam matrix; and a control system in communication with the multiple of emitters and the multiple of receivers, the control system operable to detect a minimum sized object in response to breaking at least one beam of the beam matrix.

    Abstract: According to an aspect, a method includes configuring a predictive system model with a plurality of component models to correspond with a modeled state of a mechanical system. A set of perturbation inputs is applied to one or more of the component models to produce a plurality of prediction results. The prediction results are compared to a targeted mode of the mechanical system. A set of configuration parameters of the mechanical system is captured in combination with one or more of the perturbation inputs that most closely results in the prediction results matching the targeted mode of the mechanical system.

    Abstract: An aircraft sensor system includes a first sensor configured to detect a parameter of an aircraft system and a first micro electro-mechanical-system (MEMS) disposed local to a first component within the aircraft system. The first MEMS is communicatively connected to a controller, and is configured to trigger in response to a corresponding parameter exceeding a threshold. The controller is connected to an output of the first sensor and includes a non-transitory memory storing instructions configured to cause the controller to increase a sampling rate of the first sensor to a sampling rate corresponding to the first component for at least a predetermined length of time in response to the first MEMS being triggered.

    Abstract: A drive system of a gas turbine engine includes at least one drive shaft operable to rotate within the gas turbine engine, a phonic wheel coupled to the at least one drive shaft, a speed sensor operable to detect rotation of the phonic wheel indicative of rotation of the at least one drive shaft, and a processing system coupled to the speed sensor. The processing system is operable to detect a phonic wheel pulse train indicative of rotation of the at least one drive shaft via the speed sensor, determine a torsional mode of the at least one drive shaft based on the phonic wheel pulse train, and record one or more trends of the torsional mode indicative of a health status of the drive system.
