    Abstract: A position pointer is provided, which includes a housing having an opening, a rod disposed in the housing such that one end thereof projects from the opening, and a variable capacitor having a capacitance value which varies in response to pressure applied thereto through the rod. The capacitor includes a dielectric member having a first face portion opposite a second face portion, a first electrode section disposed on the first face portion of the dielectric member, a conductive member facing the second face portion of the dielectric member and forming a second electrode section when brought into contact with the second face portion of the dielectric member, and an elastic member coupled with the conductive member and adapted for biasing the conductive member away from the second face portion. A contact area between the conductive member and the second face portion varies depending on the pressure applied through the rod.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein is a position indicator that includes: an enclosure forming a hollow and rod-shaped tubular body; a substrate disposed in the hollow portion of the enclosure and having a circuit configured to process signals exchanged with a position detection sensor; and a film-shaped capacitor having first and second conductor layers. The first conductor layer is formed on one side of a sheet-shaped dielectric, and the second conductor layer is formed on another side of the sheet-shaped dielectric and is opposed to the first conductor layer with the sheet-shaped dielectric provided therebetween. The film-shaped capacitor is fastened to the substrate in such a manner as to make up part of said circuit, and the size of an area over which the first and second conductor layers of the film-shaped capacitor are opposed is changeable by changing the size of the film-shaped capacitor to specify a constant for said circuit.

    Abstract: A position indicator includes a chassis, a core body, and a variable capacitance capacitor. The capacitor includes a dielectric, a first conductor disposed on a first surface of the dielectric, a first terminal coupled to the first conductor, forming a first electrode, a second conductor disposed on a second surface of the dielectric, an electrically-conductive member disposed opposed to the second surface of the dielectric, a second terminal that forms a second electrode of the capacitor with the second conductor and the electrically-conductive member, and an elastic member. In operation, the elastic member applies a biasing force to separate the electrically-conductive member from the second surface of the dielectric. The electrically-conductive member contacts the second conductor on the second surface of the dielectric in response to the force applied through the core body, and, in response to the contact, a capacitance of the capacitor changes to a determined capacitance.

    Abstract: A pen pressure detection device includes: a pressure sensor including electrodes that output electrical information corresponding to an applied pressure; and a holder configured to electrically connect the pressure sensor to a circuit board having a circuit that detects the applied pressure based on the electrical information output from the pressure sensor. The holder includes a first portion that retains the pressure sensor and a second portion that engages with the circuit board, and the holder has a surface on which wiring is formed, the wiring extending from the first portion to the second portion, and the electrodes of the pressure sensor being electrically connected to the circuit board via the wiring when the holder and the circuit board are engaged with each other. The pen pressure detection device can be easily assembled and maintain a connection to the circuit board when the applied pressure is high.
