摘要： Method and apparatus for dispensing of attachments comprising a pair of side members linked by a connector. A roll of fastener stock is fed to a reciprocatively driven slide head assembly at which the roll is advanced over an elastomeric feed belt to a pair of needles secured to a shuttle. Once inserted in the needles, an individual attachment is severed from the stock, and displaced over a preset distance by the shuttle into the path of a pair of ejector rods. The ejector rods force the side members of the attachment out of the needles for insertion in a fabric or other workpiece at the bottom of the head stroke. On return stroke of the head, the needles are withdrawn, ejector rods retreat, and the shuttle returns to its severing position in a manner to avoid mechanical interference. This design uses an electric motor driven fastener dispensing head, actuator slide and associated linkages for actuating the various mechanisms either on an on-demand or continuous basis. Reliability is improved by severing the attachment stock in the needle, and transferring the severed attachment to its insertion location.

摘要： A fastener dispensing tool for dispensing individual loop fasteners of the type comprising a flexible filament having a socket at one end and an inserting element at the opposite end. The tool comprises a housing and a hollow, slotted needle extending outwardly from the housing, the needle being dimensioned to dispense a fastener inserting element. An arm assembly extends outwardly from the housing, the arm assembly defining a feed channel dimensioned to receive a fastener socket and to define a stop engageable with the rear end of the socket to align the socket with the inserting element that has been dispensed through the needle. A piston is removably insertable into the needle for dispensing an inserting element through the needle. A belt is removably insertable into the arm assembly for feeding a socket through the feed channel. A trigger is operatively coupled to each of the piston and the belt.

摘要： A fastener attaching tool particularly suited for use in attaching buttons to clothing, etc. and which is constructed for use with a fastener clip which includes a pair of runner bars and one or more U-shaped fasteners having transverse bars at opposite ends, each transverse bar being connected on its side to a corresponding runner bar by a severable connector post. The tool includes a pair of needles each having a longitudinal slotted bore adapted to receive one of the transverse bars and a knife edge formed on one side which is adapted to sever a connector post from its associated transverse bar as the transverse bar is pushed through the needle. The body includes a transverse feed slot disposed just to the rear of the needles down through which the fastener clip is manually inserted. The tool also includes an ejector mechanism, which is slidably mounted back and forth within the body and is rearwardly biased by a spring. The ejector mechanism is manually operable from the rear of the body and includes a pair of ejector rods which are slidable back and forth within the bores of the needles and are used to push the transverse bars into and through the needles.

摘要： A fastener for use in attaching a button to a garment or a piece of fabric and a fastener clip including one or more of said fasteners. In a preferred embodiment, the fastener comprises a U-shaped flexible filament and a pair of transverse feet, the transverse feet being disposed at opposite ends of the U-shaped flexible filament. The U-shaped flexible filament is generally rectangular in cross-section. The width of the filament is substantially uniform over its length whereas the thickness of the filament is greatest in its arcuate region (to maximize the strength of the fastener) and least towards the feet. Because of its U-shape, the filament is permitted to extend between adjacent button holes, thereby creating the appearance of thread. The transverse feet, which extend parallel to one another and perpendicularly to the plane of the filament, are sized and shaped both to fit through a button hole and, once inserted through the button hole and an underlying garment, to securely engage the underside of the garment. To minimize contact with a person's skin, the feet of the present fastener are preferably shorter than the transverse bars of existing button fasteners and are preferably comparable in overall size to a knot of thread used to secure a button to a sheet of clothing material. In addition, the feet preferably have rounded ends, a flat top surface, and a contoured bottom surface to minimize contact with, and hence irritation of, a person's skin.

摘要： A fastener for use in attaching a button to a garment or a piece of fabric and a fastener clip including one or more of said fasteners. In a preferred embodiment, the fastener comprises a U-shaped flexible filament and a pair of transverse feet, the transverse feet being disposed at opposite ends of the U-shaped flexible filament. The U-shaped flexible filament is generally rectangular in cross-section. The width of the filament is substantially uniform over its length whereas the thickness of the filament is greatest in its arcuate region (to maximize the strength of the fastener) and least towards the feet. Because of its U-shape, the filament is permitted to extend between adjacent button holes, thereby creating the appearance of thread. The transverse feet, which extend parallel to one another and perpendicularly to the plane of the filament, are sized and shaped both to fit through a button hole and, once inserted through the button hole and an underlying garment, to securely engage the underside of the garment. To minimize contact with a person's skin, the feet of the present fastener are preferably shorter than the transverse bars of existing button fasteners and are preferably comparable in overall size to a knot of thread used to secure a button to a sheet of clothing material. In addition, the feet preferably have rounded ends, a fiat top surface, and a contoured bottom surface to minimize contact with, and hence irritation of, a person's skin.

摘要： A fastener clip having a plurality of fasteners for use in attaching a button to a garment or a piece of fabric. In a preferred embodiment, the fastener clip comprises a plurality of fasteners, each fastener being a flexible U-shaped filament having a foot at each end. The filament portion of the fastener is preferably rectangular in cross-section and has a non-uniform thickness, i.e., being thinner at the ends and thicker in the arcuate region, to maximize the strength of the fastener. The feet are appropriately dimensioned so that they may be inserted into a desired garment through a pair of button holes of conventional size and thereafter be retained by the underside of the garment. Each foot has rounded ends, a flat top surface and a compact size to minimize irritation with a person's skin. The fastener clip also comprises a pair of runner bars, each fastener being connected to the pair of runner bars by a pair of severable connector posts. The connector posts are attached to the outer sides of the fastener feet, as opposed to the bottoms thereof, so that, when they are severed, they will not create burrs in areas where they are likely to come into contact with a person's skin.

摘要： A fastener dispensing needle is manufactured by a machining process which includes bending a metal tube to assist in obtaining an important configuration for the tip of the needle. A flared portion of the needle tip determines the diameter of the hole made through the material of the object being penetrated by the needle. This flared portion is sized to make a hole at least large enough to overlap with the diameter of the central bore through the needle. This minimizes unnecessary stresses on the fastener as it is ejected from the needle, thus resulting in fewer undesired breakages of the fasteners. In addition, the area of the needle where the central bore and longitudinal groove merge into the tip portion of the needle is configured to minimize cutting action on the filament of the fastener, again resulting in fewer undesired breakages.

In one embodiment, the needle includes a shank portion and a base portion, the shank portion having a front section shaped to define a spoon-shaped tip. The tip has a blunt point with a radius approximately twice that of conventional needles. The distance from the point to where the tip reaches full diameter is approximately 80% of the distance typically found in conventional needles, and the full diameter of the tip is less than that in conventional needles. The side profile of the top edges of the tip are flat or downwardly-curved as opposed to being upwardly-curved in conventional needles. The distance across the tip at its widest point between opposing top edges is less than that in conventional needles.
