An image forming apparatus for attaching an electronic signature to image data read from a paper document is disclosed. Validity of a first public key certificate that certifies a first signature key is determined. A first electronic signature-for the image data is generated by using the first signature key. The first electronic signature is prevented from being generated in response to an event that it is determined that the first public key certificate is invalid.

A text print instructions sheet generation unit embeds, in a text print instructions sheet, identification information for specifying a text print instructions sheet after being converted into image data. A sheet data management unit manages layout information that associates the identification information for specifying the text print instructions sheet with the identification information of a document included in a retrieval result. An image analysis unit extracts the identification information for specifying a sheet from the image data, specifies the layout information managed by the sheet data management unit based on the extracted identification information, and performs image analysis based on the specified layout information.

A disclosed measuring device generates measurement data recorded by continuously measuring measurement information. Divided data items are generated by dividing the measurement data. A feature quantity representing each of the divided data items generated is acquired. A time stamp is acquired based on measurement time data, where the measurement time data include the feature quantities and measurement time identification information of each of the divided data items, the measurement time identification information expressing a measurement time of each of the divided data items on a predetermined time axis. An electronic signature is generated for the measurement time data and the time stamp by using a private key specific to the measuring device. The measurement time data, the time stamp, and the electronic signature are saved in association with the measurement data.
Abstract:
A method of certifying the existence of electronic information released on a network at a time and date. The network connects one or more computer servers and a plurality of client computers with each other. Electronic information of a web page stored in one of the plurality of client computers is accessed using information of its location from one of the computer servers based on a request from one of the client computers. A copy of the electronic information is then obtained. Attribute information is generated from the location, access time, and date when the electronic information is accessed. An electronic certificate may be generated by uniquely specifying the electronic information and the attribute information as inherent information identifying the electronic information. The copy of the electronic information is stored in a memory by tying up the electronic information with the electronic certificate and the attribute information. At least the electronic certificate, the attribute information, and preferably the copy of the electronic information can also be read and provided from the memory to the one of the client computers or its operator as a requester.

An access control apparatus is disclosed that controls access to a predetermined resource. The access control apparatus includes entity relationship definition information defining a predetermined relationship of a first entity attempting to access the predetermined resource with a second entity, indirect access control information defining an access right to the predetermined resource based on the predetermined relationship, and an indirect access right determining unit that detects the second entity with which the first entity has the predetermined relationship based on the entity relationship definition information, and determines an access right of the first entity based on the predetermined relationship with the detected second entity and the indirect access control information.
