Abstract: Techniques for volumetric assessment of a product based on images captured by a bi-optic scanner are disclosed herein. An example system includes a first imaging assembly, having a field of view of a product scanning region, configured to capture a first image of an item passing through the product scanning region; a second imaging assembly, having an orthogonal field of view, configured to capture a second image of the item passing through the product scanning region at the same time; processors; and a memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the processors to: determine a first distance of the item from an edge of the first field of view based on the first image; determine a second distance of the item from the a corresponding edge of the second field of view based on the second image; and generate an estimated volume of the item based on the first image, the first distance, the second image, and the second distance.

Abstract: Techniques for establishing a bidirectional wireless communication link between two otherwise detachable devices when these devices are physically joined together for use as a physically joined device are provided. An example method includes receiving by a mobile computing device a short-range wireless signal from an RFID reader device; monitoring, by the mobile computing device, an RSSI associated with the signal from the RFID reader device; and establishing, by the mobile computing device, a wireless communication connection to the RFID reader device based on the measured RSSI associated with the signal from the RFID reader device being greater than a threshold RSSI value, wherein the threshold RSSI value is calibrated based on an RSSI value associated with the short-range wireless signal from the RFID reader device measured by the mobile computing device when the mobile computing device is physically joined to RFID reader device for use as a joined device.

Abstract: Systems and methods for scanning multiple items in a single swipe are disclosed herein. An example method includes capturing, by an optical imaging assembly, a plurality of images of a field of view (FOV) of the optical imaging assembly. A processor identifies a plurality of indicia from one or more images of the plurality of images. The indicia are indicative of the location of one or more objects of interest within the FOV. The processor decodes each indicia to determine information associated with the one or more objects of interest. The processor further identifies, a frame of interest in one or more images and initiates a dynamic frame that includes each frame of interest. The processor identifies, from the dynamic frame, a background region in the one or more images of the plurality of images, and the processor further removes the background region from the one or more images.

Abstract: Systems and methods for adapting swipe speeds for barcode readers. A barcode reader includes a housing and an optical imaging assembly positioned at least partially within the housing. The optical imaging assembly has a field of view (FOV). The optical imaging assembly is operable to capture one or more images of the FOV. The barcode reader also includes a processor communicatively coupled to the optical imaging assembly. The processor is configured to initiate an identification session when a target at least one of (i) enters the FOV and (ii) is in the FOV. The processor further is configured to, responsive to initiation of the identification session: terminate the identification session in response to identifying a product code associated with the target resulting in a termination of the identification session; responsive to the termination of the identification session, prevent initiation of a subsequent identification session until a detection of the target exiting the FOV; and responsive to the detection of the target exiting the FOV, enable initiation of a subsequent identification session.

Abstract: A barcode reader for detecting a printing anomaly is described herein. The barcode reader may receive read data associated with a read operation involving a barcode reader and a barcode. The barcode reader may process, using an anomaly detection model, the read data to determine an anomaly status associated with the barcode being printed by a printer. The anomaly detection model may be trained based on reference decoding metric information associated with corresponding reference images that depict barcodes associated with one or more printing anomalies. The barcode reader may determine, based on the anomaly status, a printer status associated with the printer. The barcode reader may provide an indication of the printer status.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for automatic white balance correction of color cameras. The method includes capturing a first image of a target object, the first image containing a calibration area defined by a symbology and a calibration zone within the calibration area. The symbology encodes data and has first-color elements and second-color elements. The calibration zone is defined by at least some of at least one of the first-color elements and second-color elements. The method includes obtaining a location of the calibration area in the first image, and capturing a second image of the target object, the second image being multicolor. The method includes locating the calibration area in the second image based on the location, and analyzing the calibration zone within the calibration area of the second image. The method includes calculating and applying at least one white balance compensation bias based on the analyzed calibration zone.
