Abstract: This document describes an object tracker that performs stable velocity initialization for radar tracks, using multiple hypotheses, including when only sparse radar point clouds are available. With just a single point per scan, the tracker creates multiple hypotheses for the direction and speed of an object. A least square function can be applied to each hypothesis to derive each respective initial velocity, which are tracked using a Kalman Filter during a hypotheses tracking period. When hypotheses are initialized and tracked on each hypothesis tracking period, their track error scores are computed. Based on their track error scores, the hypotheses that have low evidence are discarded during the hypotheses tracking period. When the hypotheses tracking period ends, a hypothesis with high evidence initializes the track's velocity. Parallel hypothesis evaluation enables the tracker to initialize a velocity quickly and accurately by merely selecting the best hypothesis, which may enable safer driving.

Abstract: The techniques and systems herein enable track association based on azimuth extension and compactness errors. Specifically, first and second tracks comprising respective locations and footprints of respective objects are received. An azimuth distance is determined based on an azimuth extension error that corresponds to azimuth spread between the first and second tracks with respect to a host vehicle. A position distance is also determined based on a compactness error that corresponds to footprint difference between the first and second tracks. Based on the azimuth and position distances, it is established whether the first object and the second object are a common object. By doing so, the system can better determine if the tracks are of the common object when the tracks are extended (e.g., not point targets) and/or partially observed (e.g., the track is not of an entire object).

Abstract: A method is disclosed, which is carried out by a detection device having a transmitter element for transmitting wave signals and two vertically aligned receiver elements for receiving wave signals, separated by a given spacing. The method includes transmitting, at the transmitter element, a wave signal that is reflected by the target. Each receiver element receives the wave signal reflected by the target, where the wave signal propagates via multiple paths caused by the reflecting surface. While a target distance varies, a phase difference between the reflected wave signals received by the two receiver elements is measured. From the phase difference measurements, a physical quantity fluctuation is determined in relation to the target distance. The information on the target height is then derived from the physical quantity fluctuation.

Abstract: A method for determining a semantic free space in an environment of a vehicle comprises capturing a two dimensional visual image from the environment of the vehicle via a camera and determining a limitation of a free space within the visual image. Via a sensor, distance data of objects are captured and assigned to the visual image, and the limitation of the free space is transferred to a bird's-eye view based on the assigned distance data. For objects identified in the visual image a respective bounding box and a respective classification are determined. Objects limiting the free space are selected, and their bounding box is assigned to the limitation of the free space in the bird's-eye view. Finally, segments of the limitation of the free space are classified according to the classification of each bounding box of the selected objects.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for occupancy state detection in an area for a pre-determined point in time. In aspects, the computer-implemented method includes operations carried out by computer hardware components. The operations include determining a probability distribution over a list of possible occupancy states of the area at a previous point in time, determining measurement data related to the area at the pre-determined point in time, and determining a probability distribution over the list of possible occupancy states of the area at the pre-determined point in time based on the measurement data and the probability distribution over the list of possible occupancy states of the area at the previous point in time.

Abstract: A bus bar assembly includes a bus bar formed of a first electrically conductive material having a planar contact portion. The bus bar defines a first bore extending through the contact portion. The bus bar assembly further includes a contact insert formed of a second electrically conductive material that has a greater hardness than the first electrically conductive material. The contact insert defines a first surface that is mechanically and electrically connected to the contact portion of the bus bar. The contact insert defines a second surface this is plated with a third electrically conductive material which is different than the second electrically conductive material. The contact insert defines a smooth second bore coaxial with the first bore and extending from the first surface to the second surface.

Abstract: A camera testing system for determining performance of a camera comprising an imaging sensor and a lens, the system comprising a processing system comprising at least one processor and memory. The processing system may be configured to: control the camera to capture, using the imaging sensor, a first image through the lens of a target disposed at a first distance from the camera; determine a first modulation transfer function (MTF) value from the first image; control the camera to capture, using the imaging sensor, a second image through the lens of the target disposed at a second distance from the camera that is different from the first distance; determine a second MTF value from the second image; and determine performance of the camera based on the first MTF value, the second MTF value and a difference between the first MTF value and the second MTF value.

Abstract: A method is provided for classifying pixels of an image. An image comprising a plurality of pixels is captured by a sensor device. A neural network is used for estimating probability values for each pixel, each probability value indicating the probability for the respective pixel being associated with one of a plurality of predetermined classes. One of the classes is assigned to each pixel of the image based on the respective probability values to create a predicted segmentation map. For training the neural network, a loss function is generated by relating the predicted segmentation map to ground truth labels. Furthermore, an edge detection algorithm is applied to at least one of the predicted segmentation maps and the ground truth labels, wherein the edge detection algorithm predicts boundaries between objects. Generating the loss function is based on a result of the edge detection algorithm.
