    摘要: A vehicle article may have cross bars that may be nestably secured together on a trunk lid of a vehicle when not in use, and yet quickly and easily attached to elements mounted in roof ditches on the roof of the vehicle when needed for use. In another embodiment the vehicle article carrier includes a pair of pivotally secured support rails that are supported from frame or body structure of the vehicle below and adjacent the rear bumper of the vehicle. The support rails may be pivoted into stowed positions when not needed to hide them from view, and then quickly and easily pivoted out when needed for use. Attachments such as a cargo box or a bicycle carrier may be easily secured to the support rails.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a vehicle rack arrangement (10) comprises a load carrying bar (29 and at least a first clamp rack load carrier foot (50). The first clamp rack load carrier foot (50) comprises a grip member (80), a body (55), an attachment arrangement (90) and optionally an intermediate member (70). The load carrier foot (50) comprises a connection arrangement (50) which interacts with a stop surface (25a, 25b) of a load carrying bar (20) in a retaining manner to thereby, when operating the attachment arrangement (90), impart a force component to the load carrying bar (20) towards the body (55). A stop surface (25b) of the load carrying bar (20) prevents the connection arrangement (51) from displacement in a direction parallel with the longitudinal direction (X) of the load carrying bar (20), after assembly therewith. The present invention provides for a load carrier foot (50) having very few distinct components, which is cheap to manufacture and which enables an end user to connect the clamp rack load carrier foot (50) to a load carrying bar (20) in a simple and easy manner.

The strap member may be connected to the other end of the body and tightened. A mounting assembly may be provided on the top side of the body for connection to a cargo-specific carrier or accessory. A coupling device may also include a flexible fitting member configured to grip a round or rectangular crossbar. A cap member may be configured to be mounted on the fitting member and have one or more ramp surfaces which form a sliding interface with a corresponding surface on the fitting member, thereby providing a closing or tightening effect on the fitting member with respect to the crossbar.Other coupling devices are configured to grip or clamp a t-slot in the crossbar.

The system may use a pair of support rails secured to the outer body surface generally parallel to one another. The system may also include at least one cross bar having a pair of end supports. Each support rail may include a decorative cover and metallic support element, with the decorative cover being positioned over the metallic support element, and secured thereto, to at least substantially cover the metallic support element. The metallic support element may include at least one aperture at each opposing longitudinal end thereof that allows the support rail to be secured to the outer body roof surface at only its opposing longitudinal ends, and to use pre-existing fastening elements mounted in the outer body roof surface as attachment points for the support rails.

A locking slot is disposed on an inboard surface of the rails and is in communication with the retention channels. The upper side (4) and the underside (3) are connected via convexly curved and rounded lateral surfaces (5, 6). Relationships and ratios of width and curvatures provide improved aerodynamic characteristics and a reduction of the noise level caused by wind according to the invention.

The roof rack system comprises a crossbar assembly comprising: an axis of motion, e.g., translational motion; an internal structure; a first section; a second section; a third section; a first end mount; and a second end mount. The first and second sections are configured to translate, in opposite directions, along the axis of motion relative to the internal structure. The internal structure is configured to cause the third section to be centered between the first and second sections as the first and second sections translate. The first and second end mounts are coupled to respective outboard portions of the first and second sections. The first and second end mounts are configured to mount to respective first and second mounting locations, e.g., mounting locations of the vehicle.
