An apparatus is disclosed for removing bobbin tubes axially from individual tube carriers conveyed along a conveying path. The bobbin removing apparatus basically comprises a pair of bobbin withdrawal devices located at opposite lateral sides of the conveying path for frictionally engaging the bobbin tubes therebetween to thereby draw the bobbin tubes off the respective carriers while they are continuously conveyed along the conveying path. According to the invention, one or both of the withdrawal devices comprises a freely rotatable disk having an annular periphery of a high coefficient of friction arranged for peripheral engagement with the bobbin tubes conveyed along the conveying path to be rotated by engagement with each bobbin conveyed past the disk. The disk or disks are arranged to engage the bobbin tubes at an acute angle with respect to the conveying path of the individual carriers on which the tubes are supported.

Described is a suspension conveyor system for conveying bobbins (1) to predetermined bobbin positions (RSP) in a spinning mill machine, particularly a ring spinning machine, the suspension conveyor system comprising a conveying path passing along the predetermined bobbin positions (RSP) for the travel therealong of at least one driven conveyor train (4) carrying a plurality of bobbins (1). A transfer mechanism (14, 14') mounted for travelling along the spinning mill machine is provided for the transfer of individual bobbins (1) from the conveying path to the predetermined bobbin positions. In order to achieve a rapid and accurate transfer of bobbins (1) to the ring spinning machine the invention proposes to provide a bobbin carriage (14, 14') adapted to travel parallel to the conveying path (3) in unison with the conveyor train (4) and carrying a separating and guide mechanism (16, 30, 32) for the transfer of an individual bobbin (1) from the conveyor train (4) to a predetermined bobbin position (RSP).

A temporary storage spindle is provided in a service unit which services the ring spinning machine and a roving cutting and piecing apparatus and a spindle are movable between the temporary storage spindle, the bobbin holder of the spinning machine and a spare bobbin frame of the spinning machine to receive and transfer bobbins thereat to the temporary storage spindle, the bobbin holder or the spare bobbin frame. In one exchange process, the bobbin on the bobbin holder is transferred directly to the spare bobbin frame after the bobbin on the spare bobbin frame has been transferred to the temporary storage spindle. Thereafter, the bobbin on the temporary storage spindle is transferred to the bobbin holder. According to another exchange process, the bobbin on the spare bobbin frame is transferred directly to the bobbin holder after the bobbin on the bobbin holder has been transferred to the temporary storage spindle. Thereafter, the bobbin on the temporary storage spindle is transferred to the spare bobbin frame.

A roving bobbin exchanging operation is carried out for each pair of almost exhausted roving bobbins having completed the roving piecing operation for corresponding full packaged roving bobbins of the supply rail having completed the roving piecing operation. The roving bobbin exchanging operation and the roving piecing operation are performed in parallel and at the same time.

A pair of feeding rollers automatically controls the advancement and the positioning of each reserve sliver in order to substantially maintain a feeding continuity between the broken or run-out normal sliver and the reserve sliver and between such reserve sliver and a newly introduced normal sliver.
