摘要： A magnetic compass is provided which features a stationary central pointer which extends outwards to the inside of a rim displaying graduated angular indicia, said rim being integral with a pivoting disc which is magnetically coupled. The central pointer assumes the graphic shape of a craft, such as a ship's hull, the stationary disposition of which offers a more intuitive realization of the directional heading of a vessel with respect to the cardinal axes of a compass.

摘要： A simple self-contained, hand-held instrument for reading an azimuth or bearing in relation to the earth's magnetic field either out in the field or on the water with substantial accuracy. Means are provided that places the far object into the same focal plane (or focal point) as the close up bearings on the compass disc face, thus allowing the eye to instantly see both images without adjustment between near-sight and far-sight. Means are also provided for the adjustment of the instrument for the local variation or declination of the earth's magnetic field versus that of true north.

摘要： An arrangement for correcting declination in an optically readable bearing compass having a body enclosing a hermetically sealed capsule containing a compass card and a main reading line calibrated indicate bearing to the earth's magnetic pole without correction of declination. The compass body further includes an opening or passage having an optical system therein suited to facilitate taking the bearing indicated by the wind rose. The compass has a movable auxiliary reading line which is adjustable with respect to the compass body and the main reading line to both sides from its center position corresponding to the zero value of declination thus permitting the correction of bearing error caused by the geographic displacement between the true North Pole and the magnetic north pole.

A second step includes providing a three-dimensional support member defining a pair of parallel generally horizontal planar surfaces with a quadrilateral cross sectional shape including a pair of 90° angles and an obtuse angle of about 120° and an acute angle of about 60°. In addition, an apparatus includes means for attaching the support member to a wall or corner of a room so that an outer surface of said support member is perpendicular or approximately perpendicular to the direction toward Mecca and providing an arrow and fixing said arrow pointing in the direction of Mecca on an underside of one of the parallel surfaces.

摘要： An direction determining instrument provides an image reversing device positioned for siting a fixed indicator indicia and a mirror image reversed compass rose supported for rotation about its center. The compass rose is enabled by a magnetic device such as a magnet, for seeking magnetic north. The image reversing device, compass rose, and fixed indicator indicia are arranged and positioned so that the fixed indicator indicia and the rotatable mirror imaged compass rose are visible in the image reversing device as a non-reversed compass rose superimposed on the indicator indicia such that rotation of the compass rose appears to move in the direction of rotation of the instrument.
