1,032,963. Gear-finishing. CARL HURTH MASCHINEN - UND - ZAHNRADFABRIK. Dec. 10, 1962 [Feb. 8, 1962], No. 26535/62. Heading B3K. A method of shaving a gear comprises using a tool having cutting edges which are so staggered and arranged that during a number of revolutions all parts of the gear tooth flanks will co-operate an equal number of times with the associated cutting edges, each chip 29, Fig. 5, being removed so that its thickness increases from the previously machined to the unmachined portion of the tooth flank. The chip formation is obtained by a correct choice of the relationship between the crossed axis setting 24, Fig. 2, the helical direction of the offset l of the cutting edges and the direction of rotation 25 of the tool. No traverse, or only slight traverse, is used. Specification 1,032,910 describes a related operation.
