Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing a displaceable ball hitch assembly configured to be mounted in a bed of a truck. The displaceable ball hitch assembly includes a platform track, a displaceable platform, a gate member and a driving mechanism. The platform track defines a track space therein and is configured to be mounted in the bed of the truck. The displaceable platform is configured to be positioned in the track space and includes a ball hitch coupled thereto. The gate member is configured to be coupled to the platform track and includes a gate portion extendable into the track space. The driving mechanism is configured to be operatively coupled to the gate member and is configured to automatically displace the gate portion from the track space to facilitate displacement of the displaceable platform upon manual activation from a cab of the truck.
Abstract:
An easily installed and removed conversion system for a camper/trailer fifth-wheel hitch to a conventional bed mounted 50-59 mm steel ball which itself can be removed to clear the truck bed. The system consists of four basic sections: (1) The upper end steel load distribution thrust plate which attaches to the existing king pin of the trailer/camper utilizing a tapered ring and easy to tighten or loosen specially tapered set screws; (2) The lower section or coupling which interfaces with the ball that is mounted on the tow vehicle; (3) The cylindrical mid section or extension, welded to the thrust plate and which connects the upper and lower sections together; (4) The optionally removable truck bed mounted ball that may be replaced with a bed hole plug leaving the bed unobstructed while the trailer/camper is not connected.
Abstract:
A combination vehicle passenger seat/child stroller apparatus is adapted to be releasably secured to floor-board seat tracks of a vehicle. The apparatus is selectively convertible between a stroller mode for use outside the vehicle and a seat mode for supporting an adult or child passenger inside the vehicle. The apparatus includes an upright body portion and a corresponding first cushion, a bottom body portion and a corresponding second cushion, where the bottom body portion is operatively coupled to the upright body portion. Also included are front wheels and rear wheels, and front arms and rear arms each having proximal and distal ends. The distal ends of the front arms are operatively connected to the front wheels, and the distal ends of the rear arms operatively connected to the rear wheels. The proximal ends of the arms are pivotally connected to either the upright body portion or the bottom body portion. The front and rear arms are configured to pivot and fold inwardly such that in the seat mode, either the front arms or rear arms secure the apparatus to the seat tracks of the vehicle. When in stroller mode, the front and rear arms are configured to pivot and extend outwardly.
Abstract:
A hitch ball engaging assembly provides a socket to receive a hitch ball with at least one locking element. A rotatable locking collar rotates between first and second positions respectively to move the locking element between a locked state and an unlocked state. A latch can be provided to retain the collar in the first and/or second positions. The locking element(s) may be ball(s) in holes in the socket and the collar has cam surfaces to move the ball(s). The hitch ball engaging assembly may particularly be used in an adapter to interconnect a pin connector of a fifth wheel coupling to the hitch ball of a gooseneck coupling. Here, an extension member is provided with a pin connector assembly to secure the fifth wheel pin on one end and the hitch ball engaging assembly on the other end. The invention includes methods accomplished by these structures.
Abstract:
An apparatus for securing a towing vehicle to a towed vehicle. The apparatus includes a base, a mount movably secured to the base and one or more hitches attached to the mount. The mount may rotate, pivot, translate, or otherwise move in relation to the base in order to move the hitch between various positions including one or more towing positions and at least one stored or stowed position. The hitch, or hitches, may also be movably secured to the mount for additional flexibility in configuring the apparatus in the towing and stowed positions. Additionally, when multiple hitches are provided, each of the multiple hitches may be configured as different size or style of hitch such that a user may select one of the hitches depending on the intended use thereof.
Abstract:
A multi-functional vehicle for being used selectively on land or in a body of water, the vehicle includes a vehicle frame mounted on two grouped pairs of frame wheels. A passenger cabin is releasably attached to the vehicle frame. A pair of floatation pontoons is releasably attached to the passenger cabin. The vehicle frame is convertible between a cabin receiving configuration and a load receiving configuration. The vehicle can be used to carry additional passengers or load while being attached to conventional vehicles such as conventional ATV vehicles. The trailer can be specifically designed so as to be able to follow the often rugged off-road terrain on which some vehicles such as ATV vehicles are commonly used. The passenger cabin can be readily converted into a water craft through a set a quick and ergonomical steps. The vehicle may also be used on a gliding surface such as snow and converted into a gliding vehicle.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method directed to a stowaway pintle hitch that is simple to manufacture and use having novel height adjustment means, retainer, retainer lock, and stowaway pivoting motion. The apparatus may have a swiveling mount that is free to swivel while towing a trailer. A cushioning spacer is disclosed for reducing impact forces and noise in pintle hitch towing systems. In certain embodiments an apparatus in accordance with the invention may have a trunnion for insertion into a receiver tube or cavity of a vehicle. A base may be secured to the trunnion or to the vehicle. The base may also have a mount secured thereto. The mount may have a platform that is sized and positioned to receive a hitch. The mount may also have a retainer that may be moved into position and locked in order to prevent removal of a pintle ring from around the hitch. The retainer may be mounted on a pivot allowing it to rotate into and out of position. It may also be mounted on a guide such that it may translate relative to the mount. Through rotation and translation, the retainer may be moved to positions suitable for temporarily holding the retainer and for locking the retainer into position. The retainer may be of very simple construction such as a substantially flat plate in which needed apertures and outlines are formed. The mount may be adjustable relative to the base. The apparatus may have another guide to enable the mount to translate relative to the base. This may allow the mount to be height-adjustable and provide versatility of operation. A swiveling mount may allow the mount to swivel relative to the base to accommodate the towing of trailers over rugged terrain. A cushioning spacer made of suitable material may extend around a hitch and absorb impacts and dampen noise.
