Abstract:
Methods and devices are provided for recording radio broadcasts received in an analog format at a mobile communication device. The mobile communication device receives analog radio broadcast signals and analog radio data system information signals corresponding to the analog radio broadcast signals. A radio application extracts radio data system information in response to users selecting a record operation, creates a file name from the extracted radio data system information, and stores radio content corresponding to the extracted radio data system information in response to the user selecting the record operation. The radio application further monitors the radio data system information for pre-defined criteria and sends alerts to the user upon detecting the pre-defined criteria. In response to selecting the record operation, the radio application further enables users to rewind the stored radio content by a pre-determined amount and append buffered radio content to a beginning of the stored radio content.
Abstract:
A broadcast response system provides, e.g., a radio broadcast listener with the ability to obtain media content such as music or speech while listening to the radio. The user can respond to items in the radio broadcast such as advertisements, fund raising drives, or interactive listener polls during the broadcast. Data such as song title and artist, author or publisher and the IP address for the location where the digital version of the content is stored, can be transmitted using, e.g., the RBDS/RDS data stream. A reference number representing song title and artist, author or publisher and the IP address for the location where the digital version of the content is stored can also be employed for ease of implementation. This reference number can reside in a lookup table to be accessed by broadcast response server.

A portable navigation device includes a processing resource operably coupled to a Radio Data System communications unit and a location determination unit. In at least one embodiment, the processing resource supports a country code selector and is operably coupled to a data store capable of storing Radio Data System country code data. In at least one embodiment, the processing resource is also arranged to determine a first country associated with location data generated, when in use, by the location determination unit, the country code selector being arranged to identify a first country code from the country code data that does not correspond to the first country associated with the location data and a second country neighboring the first country. The processing resource is also arranged to use the first country code to generate a Program Identification code.
Abstract:
Radio Data System (RDS) Interactive Services (IS) combines data feeds and interactivity with programs broadcast on FM channels. An RDS-IS client application on user equipment (e.g., handset) extracts RDS information from the RDS enabled FM receiver, and presents content on a mobile screen in a user-friendly format. Broadcasted RDS message can include special strings or “anchors” for special treatment by receivers. Receivers replace text with visuals to enhance user experience, such as cartoons or photographic icons based on names in RadioText fields. The RDS-IS client application generates specific prompts and composes interactive screens, enables hot keys and decides actions (e.g., voice calls, SMS) on key press, triggers contextual e-commerce by invoking data calls to given URLs, and sends statistics to the operator of a two-way data channel that provides enhanced content (e.g., CDMA reverse link, SMS, wireless access network, etc.) based upon “anchors” or “tags” included with the RDS-IS message.

A host system for processing radio data system (RDS) data includes a host processor. The host system further includes a data processor configured to receive the RDS data, configured to filter the RDS data to allow the host processor to receive a selected set of the RDS data, and configured to reduce the number of interrupts to the host processor. A method is also provided for processing RDS data within a host system.

A system and method for presenting content related to a radio broadcast are provided. The system may include a radio device having a receiver configured to receive a radio signal including an audio component and digitally encoded data associated with the audio component. The radio device may further include a decoder configured to decode the digitally encoded data from the radio signal. The radio device may further include a processor configured to receive the digitally encoded data from the decoder, extract a data parameter from the digitally encoded data, send a search query including the data parameter to a content service, and receive from the content service metadata associated with the data parameter. The system may further include a display configured to display the metadata received from the content service.

A radio transmission method and a radio transmitter device for radio transmission of an audio signal from an audio device to a radio receiver wherein an audio signal is received from the audio device, and an RF signal is transmitted simultaneously which is modulated with the audio signal on each of a set of at least two different RF channels. Within each of the transmitted RF signals, information identifying at least the other RF channels in the set of RF channels is included.

The invention relates to a method for the radio-frequency communication of data, in which the receiving of and/or access to said data is controlled by control means, including an electronic microcircuit, on the basis of access rights. The transmitted data includes time information, and the access rights are controlled on the basis of said time information. The invention also relates to a device for controlling access rights as well as to a radio-frequency receiving device including same.

A method for decoding a message is disclosed. The method is used for an electronic system for displaying messages. The method comprises the following steps: a processing module decoding an un-decoded string of a message received from a message transferring terminal, acquiring a first word group and saving the first word group to a word group handling buffer, and recording a repetition value of the first word group; the processing module decoding an un-decoded string of a message received from the message transferring terminal, acquiring a second word group from the un-decoded string, and saving the second word group to a word group decoding buffer; the processing module comparing the first word group and the second word group to determine whether the first word group and the second word group are the same; and if yes, increasing the repetition value of the first word group.

A receiving apparatus has counters 15 for counting intervals between group types 8A containing TMC data in RDS data in synchronization with an RDS clock signal, and causes a radio control unit 17 to control a sub tuner front end 7 so as to receive the group type 8A and to execute radio processing other than receiving the TMC data during counting of the counters.
