Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for generating metadata for content. Upon detecting a request for a stored media asset from a first device, a server determines that metadata is needed for the media asset based on determining that (a) the server has access to insufficient metadata associated with the media asset and (b) the popularity of the media asset is sufficiently high. The server then assigns at least a time segment of the media asset to the first device for analysis. After assignment, the first device gathers frame analysis and user input data while the user is viewing the media asset, and transmits the gathered data to the server. The server then uses the frame analysis data and the user input data to generate metadata, and makes the generated metadata available to all devices requesting the media asset.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for determining personalized timing for generating for display advertisements to users. Rather than an expert determining time segments of a media asset most suitable for presenting advertisements to users, the most suitable time segments in a media asset for presenting advertisements to users may be customized based on a user's profile information and/or the user's level of engagement in a media asset. The media guidance application may parse a media asset into multiple time segments and determine one or more time segments associated with metadata that matches content characteristics preferred by the user. One or more advertisements may be presented to the user in these time segments determined by the media guidance application instead of the time segments determined by the expert.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for determining types of references within a content item and mapping them to particular applications. A content management application identifies an entity and a context of the entity at a location within the content item. The content management application may identify the entity and the context of the entity in real time as a first user device processes the content item, or the content management application may identify and store the entity and the context of the entity in a database before providing the content item. After determining a presence of a second user device associated with a profile, the content management application determines at least one application associated with the entity and the context of the entity on the second user device and launches the application to create an immersive content consumption experience.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to providing a non-linear data structure stored in a blockchain database. More particularly, the present disclosure provides systems and methods for identifying so-called “fake news” on a media platform. The present disclosure provides a method that leverages data describing news content items to generate a hash value for which a root node of the non-linear data structure is created. Commit data is received and added to the non-linear data structure. The commit data may include verification tags that identify the news content item is true or misleading.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for displaying personalized preview images during trick-play operations of a media asset based on user profile data and an importance of frames of the media asset. A request from a user to move a slider of a progress bar associated with a media asset is received while the media asset is being generated for display. A scene from the media asset that contains a play position indicated by the slider is identified and a frame that best matches user profile data of the user and importance data for the scene is identified. The identified frame is generated for display as an overlay over the displayed media asset.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing fast forwarding recommendations based on the user's consumption history are disclosed. The consumption history includes data relating to attributes that were previously rewinded and watched and those that were skipped and forwarded. It also includes scores for attributes that were present and absent in a portion that was previously rewinded or forwarded. A score is assigned to the attributes and used for determining a consumption pattern. If the consumption pattern indicates that the user previously rewinded and watched the attribute, then a recommendation not to skip an upcoming portion that includes the attribute is provided. A graphical timeline that depicts the amount of time saved by skipping the portion of the media asset with the attribute is also provided.
