Abstract: In a method of generating a virtual 3D model of a dental site, scan data comprising an intraoral image is received during an intraoral scan of a dental site. A representation of a foreign object is identified in the intraoral image based on a color analysis of the scan data. The intraoral image is modified by removing the representation of the foreign object from the intraoral image. Additional scan data comprising a plurality of additional intraoral images of the dental site is received during the intraoral scan. A 3D surface of the dental site is then generated using the modified intraoral image and the plurality of additional intraoral images.

Abstract: Polymeric shell appliances are provided in which the polymeric shell appliances are configured to provide one or more activation forces to facilitate tooth movement. In many embodiments, the appliances comprise interproximal engagement structures to provide activation forces to interproximal tooth surfaces. In many embodiments, the activation forces are arranged to provide a plurality of forces, including a force in a direction opposite to an intended direction of tooth movement. Abstract: A processing device receives a plurality of intraoral scans of a dental arch. The processing device determines, from the plurality of intraoral scans, a first set of intraoral scans that depict a restorative object and a second set of intraoral scans that fail to depict any restorative object. The processing device generates a multi-resolution three-dimensional model of the dental arch, wherein a first portion of the multi-resolution three-dimensional model is generated from the first set of intraoral scans, has a first resolution and represents the restorative object, and wherein a second portion of the multi-resolution three-dimensional model is generated from the second set of intraoral scans, has a second resolution and represents a remainder of the dental arch, wherein the first resolution is greater than the second resolution.

Abstract: Improved dental models for use in dental procedures are provided. In one aspect, a unitary dental model of an intraoral cavity of a patient having a dental implant comprises a physical surface representative of gingival tissue of the patient. The model can comprise a channel shaped and oriented to receive an abutment corresponding to a physical abutment to be connected to the dental implant, in which the channel extends to an opening in the physical surface. The channel can comprise a first portion shaped to receive and constrain a corresponding structure of the abutment to a position and orientation and a second portion shaped to receive a fastener to couple the abutment to the unitary dental model. In many embodiments, the first portion comprises a shoulder shaped to receive the corresponding structure of the abutment in order to position the abutment along the channel.

Abstract: In embodiments, a processing device generates a three-dimensional model of a dental site from scan data, the three-dimensional model comprising a representation of a tooth, wherein a portion of the three-dimensional model comprises an interfering surface that obscures a portion of the tooth. The processing device receives or generates an image of the tooth, wherein the image depicts the interfering surface. The processing device processes the image to generate a modified image, wherein the portion of the tooth that was obscured by the interfering surface in the image is shown in the modified image. The processing device updates the three-dimensional model of the dental site by replacing, using the modified image, the portion of the three-dimensional model that comprises the interfering surface that obscures the portion of the tooth, wherein the portion of the tooth that was obscured in the three-dimensional model is shown in an updated three-dimensional model.

Abstract: In embodiments, a processing device detects a margin line in a model of a preparation from one or more images. The processing device determines, for each segment of a plurality of segments of the margin line, a quality score for the segment. The processing device determines that a segment of the margin line has a quality score that is below a quality threshold, wherein the segment of the margin line was generated based on a first set of images. Responsive to determining that the segment of the margin line has the quality score that is below the quality threshold, the processing devices updates the three-dimensional model of the preparation by replacing a portion of the three-dimensional model associated with the segment of the margin line with image data from at least one of a new image or a second set of images.

A method may include scanning a patient's teeth to form first 3D data of the patient's teeth including a removable element that obscures part of the dental surfaces of the patient's teeth and non-obscured tooth surfaces, removing the removable element form the patient's teeth so that the removable element no longer obscures the part of the dental surfaces of the patient's teeth, and scanning the previously obscured part of the dental surfaces of the patent's teeth and the non-obscured tooth surfaces.

Abstract: Systems and methods for improved visual prosthetic and orthodontic treatment planning are provided herein. In some aspects, a method for preparing a tooth of a patient is disclosed. The method may comprise building a model of a dentition of the patient including a model of the initial shape of tooth. The method may also include determining a final prepared shape of the tooth. In some aspects, the method may also include generating a treatment plan comprising a plurality of steps to modify the initial shape of the tooth to the final prepared shape of the tooth. The method may also include rendering visualizations for the plurality of steps of the treatment plan. The visualizations may depict the removal of tooth material to modify the initial shape of the tooth to the final prepared shape of the tooth.
