摘要: A digital spread spectrum non-linear junction detector (NLJD) utilizes the 2.4 GHz transmission band to increase sensitivity to detect smaller electronics. The receiver chain of the NLJD pre-distorts the transmission signal and correlates the result with the response signal to differentiate between target responses and ambient interference signals. A touch screen display displays a signal strength received by the NLJDs receiver at a second harmonic frequency of the 2.4 GHz transmit signal and a signal strength received by the receiver at a third harmonic frequency of the transmit signal. A frequency swept response received by the receiver in response to the transmitted 2.4 GHz transmit signal is graphically displayed on the touch screen. The use of the 2.4 GHz band, touch screen, correlation based target differentiation and frequency swept response display improve the sensitivity and usability of the NLJD and increase the likelihood of it successfully performing its tasks.

摘要: An accessory for a digital music player establishes bidirectional communications between the digital music player and a remote receiver. The bidirectional communication channel allows song information such as the title, artist and album to be transferred from the digital music player to the remote receiver. This information is then displayed by the remote receiver. The accessory also transmits an FM audio signal to the receiver based upon an audio signal received from the digital music player such that music from the player can be played over the remote receiver. The bidirectional communication channel allows the controls of the remote receiver's controls to be used to control the music being played by the digital music player. The commands and digital information are preferably transferred between the digital music player and the remote receiver in accordance with a Radio Data System or Radio Broadcast Data System format.

摘要: A case for portable electronic device has a set of substantially rigid opposing faces mounted on a hinge that fold together to enclose the device. An internal electrical connection between the device and the case is used to provide an electrical access point on the exterior of the case. The external electrical connection is accomplished through a passive electrical connector positioned on the hinge that holds the opposing faces together. Additional active electronics and batteries may also be positioned in the hinge such that the case can be operationally linked with the device contained in the case. Since many portable electronic devices are dimensioned to be carried in pockets or purses, limiting the size of a protective carrying case can be crucial to gaining consumer acceptance. The case is particularly well adapted for use with a digital music player.

摘要: A pen or stylus for use with a finger activated computer touchpad uses capacitively coupled voltage signals to simulate the capacitive effect of a finger on the touchpad. In addition, the pen has buttons that can be utilized to capacitively couple control signals to the touchpad that are interpreted by application software as specific user-defined inputs. The pen has a conductive tip that is placed into contact with the touchpad. By biasing the touchpad electrodes with a properly timed voltage signal, the pen alters the charging time of the electrodes in the touchpad. This alteration in charging time is interpreted by the touchpad as a change in capacitance due to the presence of a user's finger. Thus, the pen can be used with touchpads that were designed to only detect finger movements.

摘要: A digital eye data bank contains digital eye information concerning a plurality of different eyes in the form of schematic eve models. Each model contains a quantitative and qualitative description of the optical performance of a human eye that can be used to simulate the eye's optical performance. Each schematic eye model is associated with at least one of an age, race, gender, geographic residence, or medical diagnosis of a group of individuals. The digital eye data bank also contains personal information such as body height, weight, education background, and physical, chemical, and mental status that may correspond to an eye condition associated with the eye model. The digital eye data bank is used to evaluate the performance of ocular instruments through computer simulation and predict a measurement outcome among a population of subjects.

摘要: A device case for a portable electronic device includes a device stand attached to a back surface of the case housing. The device stand is formed by an inner stand and outer stand connected by releasable hinged connections to the back surface of the case housing. A track is formed on a surface of the outer stand that the inner stand slides along. A locking portion such as a cavity or channel on the outer stand locks the inner stand into an open position with respect to the outer stand. At least a portion of the outer stand is flexible such that applying a threshold pressure to the device case causes the portion of the outer stand to flex such that the locking portion releases the inner and outer stand from the open position without damaging the stand.
