A method for designating a representative color which is expressed based on a reliability that a representative color of an image region expresses an image region is disclosed. This method includes a step for expressing a reliability of the representative color value as a color information of the image region together with a representative color value which represents the image region in a method using a color value as an information with respect to an image region, for thereby expressing a color information of an image region using a reliability and a color segmentation method of an image region.
Abstract:
A video-on-demand (VOD) system and method which efficiently enables a user to resume viewing of a video program from an interrupted position is disclosed. The present invention allows the user to resume viewing of a video program even if the user requests a resumption of the interrupted video program several times or through different video servers. Particularly, the video viewing characteristic information of a user terminal is not managed by a video server of the VOD system, but is managed by the user terminal. Accordingly, when a user interrupts viewing of a video program, the video server transmits to the user terminal user profile information which includes the characteristic information related to the viewing of the video program. Thereafter, if the user requests resumption of the interrupted video program using the user profile information, the video server re-transmits the video program from the interrupted position of the video program.

A method for quantization of a color histogram bin value of an image or video, and more particularly, a method for non-uniform quantization of a color histogram bin value of an image (or video) according to the frequency of color occurrence is provided. The methods effectively represent the characteristics of a color histogram of an image in comparison to conventional art, and improve the performance of image retrieval when an image (video) retrieval search is conducted.

A method is provided for setting a dominant color using a spatial coherency in order to improve performance of an image search function. The method includes describing an image region based on several dominant colors, a frequency of each dominant color, and a spatial coherency (SC) of the dominant color. In the method, the spatial coherency is non-uniformly quantized based on a predetermined threshold. For example, the spatial coherency (SC) may be ranged from 0 to 1 and the threshold may be set to 0.70.

The present invention relates to an image search method capable of expressing one color feature related to a spatial color feature of a still image based on a multilevel image grid and similarity-based searching images using the thusly expressed multilevel image grid. In the present invention, hierarchical grids of different levels are generated with respect to one feature for thereby obtaining a data structure in which each cell corresponding to the grid is expressed based on a reliability on a region representative color and the region representative color, so that it is possible to fast and accurately search images with respect to a user's content-based query based on a cell matching of the same level as two image grids and different levels or a color local matching of the grid match.

The present invention discloses a method for setting a dominant color using a spatial coherency in order to improve performance of an image search function, describing an image region based on several dominant colors, a frequency of each dominant color, and a spatial coherency (SC) of the dominant color. In the method according to the present invention, the spatial coherency is non-uniformly quantized based on a predetermined threshold. A method of searching for images in a database system determines weights of desired image features by taking into consideration both recent user relevance feedback information and whole feedback information. The method is performed in accordance with a multimedia data structure which reflects user feedback change. According to one embodiment, the data structure includes information describing the features of a specific image, recent user feedback information when the weights of the features of the specific image are learned and determined by the user relevance feedback information, and whole feedback information when th weight of the features of the specific image are learned and determined by the user relevance feedback information. The weights of the image features are determined considering both the recent user feedback information and the whole feedback information, and the image features according to the determined weights are used for the image search.

An efficient method for retrieving an image using multiple features for an image subregion is disclosed. The present invention obtains a regional representative color for the subregions and uses the regional representative color during a retrieval of a similar image if the regional representative color is reliable. Otherwise, a feature information other than the regional representative color is used.
