    摘要: A router depth adjustment mechanism for minimizing rapid course depth adjustment for standard and plunge routers. Routers with rapid or course adjustment mechanisms may permit a router motor housing to drop suddenly, if the user is inattentive. Sudden adjustments may result in damage to the router and potentially contact the user. The mechanism of the present invention includes a threaded shaft and a biased thread engaging member which may be disengaged for rapid adjustment. A restraining device and/or a break may be included to minimize the rate of change.

    摘要: An apparatus for providing convenient control of a power tool electrical system. A switch assembly includes a first actuator and a second actuator, which is disposed remotely from the switch and first actuator. The second actuator is connected via a coupling device, such that user manipulation of either the first or second actuator is capable of controlling electricity flowing to the motor. Including a second actuator may permit the user to retain greater control over the tool when turning the power on or off. In additional exemplary aspects, a coupling device included in the switch assembly is configured and arranged so as to prevent inadvertent damage to the power tool such as by accidental engagement of a shaft lock while the motor is operating.

    摘要: Improvements made to a router relate to a sub-base alignment system. In a preferred embodiment, the alignment system comprises a plurality of raised bosses which are located on the sub-base at known locations and which engage a plurality of recessed cavities in the router base. Alternatively, the raised bosses may be placed on the router base and the cavities may be located in the sub-base, or a combination of boss and cavity locations may be used. The router base is positioned at a known locations relative to the center of rotation of the router bit. For example, in the plunge router shown, the base is coupled to plunge guide posts, which themselves are coupled to the motor housing at known locations. The coupling of the raised bosses with the recessed cavities places the sub-base at a known position relative to the router base. In such a configuration, the outer edge of the sub-base, which may be used to guide the router when making a cut, is held at a known position relative to the center of rotation of the router chuck, thus enabling the precise guidance of the router relative to a guide member.

    摘要: A sander vacuum housing and pad frame system is provided for generating unique, continuous air flow for dust collection in a sander coupled to a dust collection system, while providing the versatility of a pad frame system. The system has particular application to a pad frame system for supporting sanding pads having varying characteristics, but is not limited to such a system. The system comprises a vacuum housing configured to be coupled to a motorized sanding mechanism of a sander for moving the vacuum housing in a sanding motion. The vacuum housing defines the upper portion of a dust channel. The dust channel in the vacuum housing is configured for connection to a dust collection system. The system further comprises a pad frame configured to be coupled under the vacuum housing for moving the lower surface of an attached frame in a sanding motion. The pad frame comprises a sanding pad for supporting sandpaper. The vacuum housing defines air flow dust ports, which may be proximate the upper surface of the attached pad frame in a lower portion of the vacuum housing. The dust ports permit a continuous flow of air during dust collection from a region outside the vacuum housing proximate the upper surface of the attached pad frame, through the vacuum housing dust channel, and to the dust collection system. Airborne dust proximate the dust ports will be drawn continuously into the dust collection system.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to a router including a motor housing for at least partially enclosing a motor, a base having a sleeve for receiving the motor housing therein. The base is constructed to at least partially support the motor housing on a workpiece. The router additionally includes an electrical switch disposed substantially in a quadrant, defined by a first axis extending through generally opposing handles, and a second axis, extending normal to the first axis, and generally bisecting the motor housing, of the motor housing. Preferably, the electrical switch is disposed in the range of 30° (thirty degrees) to 60° (sixty degrees) from the second axis and particularly at approximately 45° (forty-five degrees) to allow for comfortable grasping of the motor housing/base, easy repeatable switch manipulation, and the like.
