摘要: A method of interrogating an addressable array having a plurality of different chemical features. The method may include simultaneously illuminating different regions of the array with light of different intensities (which, for example, can, but need not be, also of a same waveband). Light emitted from the different regions in response to the illuminating (which light, for example, can, but need not be, of a same waveband) may be simultaneously detected with different detectors. An apparatus, addressable array unit, and related methods are further provided.

摘要: An optical homogenizer is disclosed which enables an optical system to obtain the benefits of a high quantum efficiency photon detector without suffering from its non-uniform response. The optical homogenizer has an input end for receiving light emitted from a light source and an output end that produces a relatively uniform distribution of light along a spatial dimension of the photon detector in response to the light source. The optical homogenizer ensures that the photon detector is uniformly illuminated from the output end regardless of where photons from the light source enter the input end.

摘要: An optical scanning system adapted to physically adjust scanner settings in response to control feature readings is disclosed. The scanner and methodology finds particular use in reading of biopolymer arrays. The system may operate in any of a number of ways such that optimal data from scans is obtained. It may also be possible to use the system as a tool to aid in manufacture of arrays by providing feedback to a manufacturer regarding the signal produce for a given batch of samples tested.

摘要: Optical scanner system approaches are described in which signal saturation data is produced in real-time. The data generated may be used for tuning a subsequent scan, in protection of optical detector components from damage or otherwise. Approaches for obtaining and storing or expressing the data are also disclosed. Also provided are methods of using the subject system is biopolymer array based application, including genomic and proteomic applications.

摘要: The system includes a confocal optical system to illuminate an object at an intended detection plane and to focus light from the object onto a pinhole. An opaque obstacle is disposed within the confocal optical system, the obstacle selected to suppress light originating outside the intended detection plane from passing through the pinhole. It is preferred that the obstacle size and location be selected to achieve a desired level of suppression. A design goal is a 100-fold reduction in background with a 10% or less loss of signal.

摘要: A projection surface includes scattering microparticles that are in constant motion in relation to each other and to a source of laser radiation in a laser projection system. The microparticles reduce the formation of spots that normally occur when viewing the contents of images which are uniformly illuminated by means of laser projection and which are reflected off a projection surface. The microparticles are formed in a suspension fluid and move due to Brownian molecular motion. The fluid is warmed to further increase motion of the microparticles or a piezoelectric force or other mixing mechanism is used to cause turbulence that also increases motion and mixing of the microparticles.

摘要: A method and system of operating a laser device includes utilizing an integral power-regulation sensor of the laser device to detect energy back reflected from an object of interest and then using the detected signal as a basis for determining a characteristic related to the object of interest. In the preferred embodiment, the determined characteristic is the position of the beam focus relative to a surface of the object. Also in the preferred embodiment, the integral power-regulation sensor is disconnected from power-regulation circuitry during the focusing operation. Interaction of the back reflected energy and the outgoing beam can be reduced by introducing beam rotation, such as by providing a quarter-wave plate along the beam path. Focusing sensitivity can be increased by locating reflective targets over the surface and by executing AC measurements to filter DC components from the signal.
