    摘要: The invention pertains to a mechanical device useful for distributing, routing, and managing fibers, such as optical fibers. The device is particularly useful applications such as computers and telecommunication equipment. In one embodiment, the inventive device comprising conductors and a flexible substrate. The flexible substrate has (a) a central body having at least one input end where the conductors enter; (b) a plurality of primary tabs extending from the central body, each tab having at least one means for retaining the conductors; and (c) a passageway formed from folding the device along a plurality of folding slots such that a plurality of locking features mate with a plurality of interlocking slots and the primary tabs, the conductors disposed inside at least a portion of the passageway. The device manages, routes, and distributes conductors without the use of an adhesive.

    摘要: A diffractive homogenizer is provided for receiving a beam of laser energy and producing a desired illumination pattern in a target plane. The homogenizer is made up of a plurality of diffractive sub-elements, each of which contributes to all or a portion of the desired image. By combining the contributions of many sub-elements to form the final image, a homogenizing effect is realized. In preferred embodiments, the sub-elements are designed to compensate for the finite spatial coherence of the incident laser beam and to control the numerical aperture distribution of the transmitted light. Each sub-element is composed of a large number of discrete pixels, each of which alters the phase of radiation passing therethrough by a selected amount. The pixel arrangement is chosen, using computer modeling and optimization techniques, such that the interference pattern created by the collective pixels in a sub-element makes up the desired image (or a portion thereof). A technique is also provided for reducing the intensity of the image formed by a selected sub-element, which may be located in a laser "hot spot", by randomizing a selected percentage of the pixels located in that sub-element. This diffractive homogenizer is useful in various laser ablation and annealing and other laser material processing applications.

    摘要: A three dimensional optical circuit featuring an optical manifold for organizing, guiding and protecting individual optical fibers is shown. One aspect of the present invention is a three dimensional manifold which may be constructed using a rapid prototyping process such as, but not limited to, stereolithography (“SLA”), fused deposition modeling (“FDM”), selective laser sintering (“SLS”), and the like. The manifold has a number of input openings in a first ordered arrangement at one end connected by passageways to a number of output openings in a second ordered arrangement at the opposite end. A plurality of optical fibers may be directed through the passageways of the manifold to produce a three dimensional optical circuit such as a shuffle. Moreover, the optical manifold may be used in conjunction with a number of connections or terminations to form a various optical modules. These modules may be configured for rack mounting within enclosures for electrical components.
