Abstract: One example method includes performing a recovery operation. A recovery operation is performed using streams rather than volumes in the cloud and without using compute instances or servers for do data. Do data is written to a do stream. Occasionally, a compute instance power on reads data from the do stream. The do data ready from the do stream is applied to a cloud volume and a snapshot of the cloud volume is performed. The backups include discrete PiT backups and recovery can be performed to any of the discrete PiT backups.

Abstract: A data protection system configured to backup a time series database is provided. The data protection system may be integrated with or have access to consolidation policies of the time series database. The backup policy and backup retention policy are set by monitoring the consolidation policy and adjusting the backup policy to ensure that the data in the time series database is protected prior to being downscaled, discarded or otherwise consolidated.

Abstract: A data protection system includes a splitter configured to reduce latencies when splitting writes in a computing environment. The splitter captures a write and adds metadata to augment the write with virtual related information. The augmented data is provided to a smartNIC while the write is then processed in the IO stack. The smartNIC may have a volume only visible to the splitter. The smartNIC also includes processing power that allows data protection operations to be performed at the smartNIC rather than with the processing resources of the host.

Abstract: A system is provided that includes one or more hardware processors, and a non-transitory storage medium having stored therein instructions that are executable by one or more hardware processors to perform operations including: gathering information concerning thin journal space usage, in a thin journal, by each of a plurality of consistency groups, and the thin journal space comprises a plurality of journal blocks; computing an ideal journal block state for each consistency group; computing an achievable journal block state for each consistency group; and computing a transition step from the achievable journal block state to the ideal journal block state.

FAST RECOVERY IN RECOVERPOINT USING DIRECT STORAGE ACCESS

Abstract: Data protection operations based on direct storage access. Data protection operations that involve large data transfers are optimized or improved by transferring the data using a communication path that includes direct access to disks of a storage array. This avoids latencies associated with transferring data through the layers of the storage array. The locations of the data to be transferred are identified and provided to an appliance. The appliance can then read and transfer the data over a communication path that includes direct disk access.

Abstract: A system is provided that includes multiple different consistency groups, a respective thin journal included in each of the consistency groups, and each thin journal includes a respective thin VMDK, a thin journal space that is shared by all of the consistency groups, and the journal space includes a plurality of journal blocks, and a datastore that stores blocks allocated to the thin journals, and datastore space is dynamically allocated in journal blocks to each of the respective consistency groups.
