Abstract: One embodiment can provide a method and system for synchronizing MTU in a WAN edge with router redundancy. During operation, the system may determine a set of interfaces associated with a network device among a plurality of network devices coupled via inter-switch links. The system can determine a set of layer-3 MTU values corresponding to the set of network interfaces and can determine a highest layer-3 MTU value based on the set of determined layer-3 MTU values. The system can synchronize, via the inter-switch links, the highest layer-3 MTU value, resulting in a set of highest layer-3 MTU values at the network device. The system can determine, based on the set of highest layer-3 MTU values, a global highest layer-3 MTU value. The system can derive a layer-2 MTU value based on the global highest layer-3 MTU value and can configure a respective inter-switch link with the layer-2 MTU value.

Abstract: A method for use in exiting a portion of a node from an Internet Protocol, Layer 3 network includes: preparing the network for the portion to exit prior to the exit, including: notifying a set of peer nodes of the portion's exit; and rerouting traffic in the network away from the portion to the set of peer nodes; exiting the portion from the network once the traffic is rerouted; and reintroducing the exited portion to the network, including: notifying the peer nodes of the portion's reintroduction; and rerouting at least some of the traffic through the re-introduced portion.

Abstract: Some examples relate to determining routing decisions in a SD-WAN overlay. In an example, a controller in a SD-WAN overlay comprising a plurality of network nodes may receive respective routing and link information from a respective routing agent present on each network node of the plurality of network nodes. The controller may generate a Prefix tree based on the respective routing and link information received from the respective routing agent. The prefix tree may store prefixes along with respective prefix information. The controller may determine, for each prefix in the Prefix tree, a respective routing decision for each network node in the plurality of network nodes. The controller may distribute the respective routing decision to each network node in the plurality of network nodes in the SD-WAN overlay.

Abstract: Examples disclosed herein relate to a grace link state advertisement (LSA) from a virtual stack device. In an example, a first member network device of a virtual stack device may an input from a Multi-Active Detection (MAD) device. Based on the input from the MAD device, the first member network device may determine whether a grace link state advertisement (LSA) is to be sent to a neighbor Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) enabled router by the first member network device, wherein the neighbor OSPF enabled router is an OSPF neighbor to the virtual stack device.

Abstract: One aspect can provide a system and method for tunnel-based multicasting. During operation, a source-side designated router (DR) coupled to a source device of a multicast group can broadcast a service-advertisement packet and receive a response packet from a client-side DR coupled to one or more client devices within the multicast group. The source-side DR can determine an address of the client-side DR based on the received response packet and establish a hardware-based communication tunnel between the source-side DR and the client-side DR using the address of the client-side DR. Establishing the hardware-based communication tunnel can include using hardware logic units to encapsulate multicast data packets originating from the source device. The source-side DR can further send, over the hardware-based communication tunnel, multicast data packets originating from the source device to the client-side DR, which forwards the multicast data packets to the client devices within the multicast group.
