摘要： A heating device includes a sleeve-shaped flexible fixing rotator, a heater to contact an inner surface of the fixing rotator, a pressure rotator pressed against the heater via the fixing rotator to form a nip between the fixing rotator and the pressure rotator, a thermometer to detect a temperature of the heater, and a pressing force switching mechanism to switch a pressing force between the heater and the pressure rotator. The pressing force switching mechanism switches the pressing force between the heater and the pressure rotator in at least two stages, a standard force when the temperature of the heater detected by the thermometer increases and reaches a predetermined temperature and before the medium to be heated passes through the nip, and a reduced force smaller than the standard force when the temperature of the heater detected by the thermometer is lower than the predetermined temperature.

摘要： A fixing device includes a fixing rotator including a primary portion and a secondary portion disposed outboard from the primary portion in an axial direction of the fixing rotator. A pressure rotator contacts the fixing rotator to form a fixing nip between the fixing rotator and the pressure rotator, through which a recording medium is conveyed. A primary heater heats the primary portion of the fixing rotator. A secondary heater heats the secondary portion of the fixing rotator. A primary temperature detector is isolated from the fixing rotator and detects a temperature of the primary portion of the fixing rotator. A secondary temperature detector contacts the fixing rotator and detects a temperature of the secondary portion of the fixing rotator. The primary temperature detector has a thermal time constant that is smaller than a thermal time constant of the secondary temperature detector.

摘要： A fixing device includes a fixing rotator formed into a loop and rotatable in a predetermined direction of rotation and a pressure rotator disposed outside the loop formed by the fixing rotator and pressed against the fixing rotator to form a fixing nip therebetween through which a recording medium bearing a toner image is conveyed. A stay is disposed opposite the pressure rotator via the fixing rotator. A heater is disposed opposite an inner circumferential surface of the fixing rotator to heat the fixing rotator. A pressurization member is pressed against the heater via the fixing rotator. A housing is interposed between the stay and the heater. A temperature detector is mounted on the housing to detect a temperature of the heater.

摘要： A fixing device includes an endless belt formed into a loop and rotatable in a given direction of rotation. An opposed rotary body contacts the endless belt to form a fixing nip therebetween through which a recording medium bearing a toner image is conveyed. A heater is disposed in proximity to an irradiation span spanning on an inner circumferential surface of the endless belt in a circumferential direction thereof to emit light that irradiates and heats the irradiation span of the endless belt. A shield is interposed between the heater and the irradiation span of the endless belt in a diametrical direction thereof to shield the irradiation span of the endless belt from heated air surrounding the heater.

摘要： A fixing device includes a switch circuit that selectively connects an alternating electric current power supply to a first exciting coil and a second exciting coil. When the switch circuit connects the alternating electric current power supply to both the first exciting coil and the second exciting coil, the first exciting coil and the second exciting coil together generate a first magnetic flux having a first density that reaches only a first heat generation layer of a fixing rotary body. When the switch circuit connects the alternating electric current power supply to the first exciting coil only, the first exciting coil generates a second magnetic flux having a second density greater than the first density that reaches both the first heat generation layer of the fixing rotary body and a second heat generation layer of a heat generator.
