The pressing force switching mechanism switches the pressing force between the heater and the pressure rotator in at least two stages, a standard force when the temperature of the heater detected by the thermometer increases and reaches a predetermined temperature and before the medium to be heated passes through the nip, and a reduced force smaller than the standard force when the temperature of the heater detected by the thermometer is lower than the predetermined temperature.
