摘要: Data words are transmitted over a radio channel with a novel modulation scheme which transmits data in parallel. An entire data word is modulated by separating a carrier frequency band into a number of discrete `tones`. Tone T.sub.1 is set to a zero phase shift in order to provide timing in synchronization of the signal. The remaining tones are phase shifted according to a predetermined convention, thereby encoding the bits of the data word. The phase shifts for all tones comprises a spectrum which is transmitted to a receiver simultaneously. A receiver monitors tone T.sub.1 for zero phase shifts to provide synchronization of the signal. The remaining tones are analyzed for their phase shift to provide bits which are assembled into a transmitted data word. Since the bits are transmitted in parallel as the data word, as opposed to conventional modulation schemes, the throughput is increased.

摘要: A highly fault tolerant system for datagram communication of information in the form of a message packet employs a distributed network of transmitter/receivers `transceivers`, which interact with `bridge transceivers` which are transceivers connected to a wired network, and wired nodes each having a unique identification ("ID") number. An initiating unit, which may be a transceiver, bridge transceiver or wired node, creates a message packet having an ID of an intended destination unit. If initiated from a transceiver, the message packet finds its way to a wired network by broadcasting the message packet to local transceivers. The transceivers determine valid message packets which have not expired, not been received before and were transmitted without errors. If the message packet is valid and the transceiver ID does not match its internal ID, the transceiver broadcasts the valid message packet to other local transceivers. The transceivers which receive the message packet repeat the process. The message then finds its way to a bridge transceiver connected to a wired network. A `NODE LOC` is embedded in the message packet identifying a closest wired node. The message is routed through the wired network to the wired node and then transmitted as described above to a destination unit by radio signals.

摘要: A method of distributing wide band data using a neutral-to-ground circuit within an electrical wiring installation includes modifying a load center with an interface module which interfaces to the neutral-to-ground circuit and configuring the interface module to compensate for varying impedance within the neutral-to-ground circuit to improve data transmission characteristics. Multiple embodiments are included within the method for compensation of varying impedance including channel sounding, spectral waterfilling, and communications using spread spectrum techniques, for example, frequency hopping and direct sequencing techniques.

摘要: An alternating current sensor employing a mutually-inductive current sensing scheme comprises a conductive pipe and a cylindrical-shaped conductive element at least partially surrounded by the pipe. The pipe is substantially concentric to the conductive element and a conductor electrically connects a pair of corresponding ends of the pipe and conductive element to form a connected conductive path through the sensor. The conductive element may include a passage or opening shaped to form a magnetic field within the passage during current flow along the conductive path.

摘要: In one embodiment, the present invention is an encryption/decryption and authentication algorithm. The algorithm has three major steps. The first step is generating cipher text. The second step is generating the authentication field. The third step is encrypting or deciphering the appropriate data in the message. One byte of cipher text is generated for every byte of plain text contained in the message. After all the cipher text is generated, a four byte authentication field is generated using the last four bytes of cipher text. The message is then scanned for data fields which have been encrypted or are to be encrypted and the corresponding byte of cipher text replaces the message bytes. The encryption is accomplished by sending the cipher text instead of message text. To decipher the message, the algorithm operates in a reverse mode to replace the cipher text with the message text, i.e., the algorithm is a self-reversing process.

摘要: A location system and method for determining the location of a tagged item in a facility. In one embodiment, the location system includes a plurality of room transmitters designed to be located throughout the facility. Each room transmitter has a unique signature. The system also includes at least one item or location tag affixed or otherwise associated with an item. Each tag is operable to send a signal having information related to the signature of a room transmitter within the reception range of the tag and information related to the identity of the tag. Signals from the tags are received by one or more locating receivers. Each locating receiver is operable to determine the identity of an item tag and the likely location of the item tag within the facility based upon the signal from that tag. The invention also provides a method of locating an item in a facility. In one embodiment, the method includes positioning room transmitters in multiple areas within a facility; configuring each room transmitter to generate a unique signature; fitting items with a tag; configuring each tag to generate a signal having a location portion and a signature portion; positioning a locating receiver within the facility; and determining the likely location and identity of that tag based on the tag's signal.
