摘要: A communication system and method includes a receiver for receiving a communication signal coupled through a physical medium in accordance with a protocol. An interface formed in a single substrate receives from the receiver an indication of the signal strength of the received communication signal. The interface also decodes the information contained in the received communication signal. For example, the interface sends the information decoded from the received communication signal to a first application for consuming the decoded information. The interface also sends the indication of the signal strength of the received communication signal to a second application for generating a quality determination of the physical medium in response to the indication of the signal strength of the received communication signal.

摘要: A system for transmitting and receiving communications formed using different communication protocols between members of a tractor-trailer over an SAE J560 standard electrical connection includes one or more communication hubs. Each hub includes one or more power converters, one more power line communication codec and a controller. The controller establishes one or more communication networks between members of the tractor-trailer over different pairs of conductors in the electrical connection and controls the power converters to covert power signals transmitted over the networks between direct current waveforms and alternating current waveforms. The controller controls the codecs to transmit communications over the communication networks by encoding and decoding communications over the alternating current waveforms thereby allowing the transfer of communications having different communication protocols between members of the tractor-trailer.

摘要: Technologies are described for a two-wire power delivery system with negotiated charging between host and client devices. The host device uses a state machine and additional support circuits to negotiate time-domain separated bi-directional communications with a client device over powerlines with a two-wire cable. After attachment of the client device is detected by the host device, communications are sent from the host device to the client device, an acknowledgement is sent by the client device to the host device, and charging by the host device is established. Additional failsafe conditions may be detected by the host device, such as: detachment of the client device, short circuits, and dead batteries. Periodic retriggering of negotiated communications is utilized to ensure safe charging operation and failsafe conditions. The client device includes a correspondingly configured state machine with support circuitry to facilitate communications and proper detection of conditions by the host device.

摘要: Disclosed is a system and method for power line control of devices. The system operates in two modes. In mode one, the system operates on an open loop architecture with a controller generating a sinusoidal wave using a crystal oscillator. Control information is added to the sinusoidal wave by alternating the output of two phase shifted waves which have the same frequency and amplitude to form a control signal. The resulting control signal is sent on a power line. The control signal is received using a crystal filter, decoded and converted to executable instructions for the devices and data parameters for sensors. In mode two, the system operates on a hybrid open loop/closed loop architecture where devices are jointly controlled by the controller and the sensors.

摘要: A system for calibrating signals received over a power line within a vehicle includes a signal conditioning circuit that converts the analog input signals into digital input signals. In one embodiment the circuit includes an adjustable gain circuit that outputs an amplifier gain signal establishing an amplifier gain level and an amplifier that outputs amplified signals responsive to the analog input signals and the amplifier gain signal. In another embodiment, the circuit includes a bias circuit that outputs a bias signal establishing a bias level and a comparator that generates the digital input signals responsive to the analog input signals and the bias signal. A controller receives the digital input signals and generates, depending on the embodiment, one or more control signals configured to control the configuration of the amplifier gain signal and amplifier gain level and/or the bias signal and the bias level.

摘要: A first device provides both power and data to a second device over a power line connection between the two devices. The first device includes a power line extending from a power supply, a ground line extending from a ground, a first impedance in the power line, and a second impedance in the ground line. A modulator comprised of a transistor and modulator impedance is between the first impedance and the second impedance, and a tank capacitor is between the power line and the ground line, outside the first impedance and second impedance. A comparator is coupled between the first and second impedance. A switch may be included to short out the first and second impedance, thereby enabling transmission of only power for period of time, and return to a mode of transmitting both data and power. The first device may also receive data from the second device over the power line connection.
