Abstract: A recording apparatus includes a recording format selection unit configured to select one of a plurality of recording formats, an initialization unit configured to initialize a loaded recording medium, a recording unit configured to record image data on the loaded recording medium, and a mode switching unit configured to switch between an ordinary recording mode that enables the initialization unit to initialize a newly loaded recording medium based on a recording format selected by the selection unit independent of a recording format selected for a preceding recording medium and a relay recording mode that enables the initialization unit to initialize a newly loaded recording medium, if loaded after a preceding recording medium, based on a recording format selected for the preceding recording medium.
