Abstract: A wireless power transmitter, according to one embodiment of the present specification, comprises: a power converter that transmits wireless power to a wireless power receiver and transmits the wireless power to the wireless power receiver by means of magnetic coupling with the wireless power receiver at an operating frequency; and a controller that communicates with the wireless power receiver and controls the transmission of the wireless power by using at least one of in-band communication using the operating frequency and out-band communication using a frequency other than the operating frequency, wherein the controller: transmits and receives a message to and from the wireless power receiver by using both the in-band communication and the out-band communication, wherein the controller transmits and receives a message related to detection of foreign substances between the wireless power receiver and the power converter by using the in-band communication, and transmits and receives an authentication related message to and from the wireless power receiver by using the out-band communication.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a device and a method for performing authentication in a wireless power transmission system. Disclosed in the present specification is an authentication method in a wireless power transmission system, comprising the steps of: receiving, from a target device, a first packet including indication information related to whether the target device supports an authentication function; transmitting an authentication request message to the target device if the target device supports the authentication function; receiving, from the target device, an authentication response message including a certificate for wireless charging in response to the authentication request message; and confirming the authentication of the target device on the basis of the authentication response message.

Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and method for performing foreign object detection in a wireless power transfer system. The present specification discloses a method comprising receiving a digital ping from the wireless power transmitter; transmitting an identification and configuration packets to the wireless power transmitter; transmitting a foreign object detection (FOD) state packet which indicates a reference Q factor of the wireless power receiver to the wireless power transmitter; and receiving wireless power through magnetic coupling from the wireless power transmitter based on the foreign object detection result of the wireless power transmitter using the reference Q factor. Irrespective of individual characteristics of a wireless power receiver, accuracy and reliability of detecting a foreign object may be improved.

The wireless power transmission apparatus can properly adjust an available power index in a dynamic manner at a time point desired by itself according to a surrounding environment/situation, and leadingly initiate communication and authentication.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for performing power calibration in a wireless power transmission system. The present specification provides a wireless power transmission apparatus comprising: a power conversion unit configured to transmit, in a power transfer phase, wireless power generated on the basis of magnetic coupling to a wireless power receiving device; and a communication/control unit configured to perform an initial calibration for a power parameter prior to the power transfer phase, receive a first received power packet from the wireless power receiving device indicating the power received by the wireless power receiving device during the power transfer phase, and detect foreign matter by using the received power and a first power loss determined on the basis of the initial calibration. It is possible to adaptively respond to a newly changed wireless charging environment to calibrate transmission power and reception power, and it is possible to detect foreign matter more precisely by detecting a power loss on the basis of the calibrated transmission and reception power.

Abstract: A wireless power receiver includes a power pickup configured to receive a wireless power from a wireless power transmitter, and a communicator/controller configured to control the wireless power. The wireless power receiver transmits, to the wireless power transmitter during a configuration phase, a configuration packet including an AI flag related to whether the wireless power receiver supports an authentication function, receives, from the wireless power transmitter during a negotiation phase, a capability packet including an AR flag and a potential power value of the wireless power transmitter, wherein the AR flag is related to whether the wireless power transmitter supports the authentication function, and performs a power transfer phase with the wireless power transmitter. The wireless power receiver transmits, to the wireless power transmitter during the power transfer phase, an authentication request message, and receives, from the wireless power transmitter during the power transfer phase, an authentication response message.
