摘要: An improved method and transceiver for using the method for detecting header errors includes a header processor for reconfiguring an ATM cell header by extracting the 8 bit header error check (HEC) and replacing it with an enhanced 16 or 24 bit HEC (EHEC). On the receive path, the received header is compared to the EHEC and if errors are indicated, the cell is discarded. Enhancements include FEC encoding on the entire cell during transmission, and if during reception uncorrectable errors exist using said EHEC to determine whether the error is in the header or is in the payload. If a cell with an error in its payload belongs to a group of related cells, for example an AAL5 frame, the system discontinues the transmission of the remaining cells of the frame.

摘要: A high layer protocol organizes Unidirectional Streaming Services (USS) data into frames and said data is transmitted to the wireless user's terminal. The USS data is not delivered until a criteria is satisfied, e.g., the receive buffer is filled to an appropriate value. After the USS data is received, the receiver verifies the received frames. If an error is detected a message is sent from the wireless terminal to the server (providing the unidirectional streaming service) requesting retransmission of the corrupted frame. This is a form of ARQ protocol. If the retransmitted frame arrives prior to the time that frame needs to be delivered, the corrupted frame is replaced by the retransmitted frame. Otherwise, if the retransmitted frame is not received prior to the time that frame needs to be delivered, the corrupted frame is reconstructed. Any retransmitted frame which arrives too late is discarded. An additional benefit of the present invention is that since the frames are buffered prior to delivery, interpolation, as opposed to extrapolation, can be used to improve the reconstruction quality of the corrupted frame. This optional feature of the invention uses both the preceding and succeeding frames, which are available in the buffer, to provide a better estimate of the corrupted frame.

摘要: The radiotelephone demodulates the information received from the base station. The symbol-energy-to-noise-density (E.sub.s /N.sub.o) is estimated over a specified duration. This estimate is compared to a target E.sub.s /N.sub.o value. The target is updated periodically in order to maintain the quality of service. If the measured E.sub.s /N.sub.o is greater than the target, the radiotelephone sends a power down command over a reverse power control signaling channel to the base station. If the measured E.sub.s /N.sub.o is less than the target, the radiotelephone sends a power up command to the base station over the same channel. A multi-carrier transceiver system for a code division multiple access system includes circuitry for up-converting processed user data to a plurality of frequency channels. The transceiver, in some embodiments, further includes a plurality of antennas for transmitting each channel of user data. A method of using the multi-carrier system includes processing user data, and then transmitting the data at different frequency channels, and when necessary, transmitting the data through different antennas separated in space and/or having orthogonal polarization.

摘要: In a receiver of a simulcast multi-carrier CDMA (code division multiple access) communications system, a combined data signal is produced by combining signals representing data received for the plurality of carriers and is multiplied by the complex conjugate of a composite reference signal, representing characteristics of the plurality of carriers, produced by combining signals representing a reference signal received for the plurality of carriers, thereby improving multi-path resolution due to frequency diversity of the reference signal over the multiple carriers of the system. The receiver can be simplified by demodulating the signals of the plurality of carriers in common to produce a demodulated signal which is common to the data and reference signals for the plurality of carriers, the data and reference signals being subsequently separated using their respective orthogonal codes. Data signals can be recovered both with and without the improved multi-path resolution over the multiple carriers, and an optimum selection between them can be made.

摘要: Samples of a transmit path voice channel signal are averaged and compared with an adaptive speech threshold to determine the presence of speech. When the average falls below a fixed threshold, a timing circuit is triggered to time a delay period followed by a noise averaging period. The timing of these periods is aborted if either the transmit path average, or a similarly produced receive path average, exceeds the fixed threshold during either period. During the averaging period the voice channel signal is averaged, and at the end of this period the average noise level is used to determine the adaptive speech threshold, a predetermined level above the average noise level, the new adaptive speech threshold being stored. The stored adaptive speech threshold is not changed unless the timing of the delay and averaging periods is completed, ensuring that only the noise is averaged to determine the adaptive speech threshold.
