Abstract: A device includes a light guide. The device also includes a first in-coupling element configured to couple a first input light into the light guide, and a first out-coupling element configured to couple the first input light out of the light guide as a first output light having a first output field of view (“FOV”). The device also includes a second in-coupling element configured to couple a second input light into the light guide. The device further includes a second out-coupling element configured to couple the second input light out of the light guide as a second output light having a second output FOV substantially non-overlapping with the first output FOV. A combination of the first and second output FOVs is larger than at least one of the first or second output FOV, and the first and second input lights have orthogonal polarizations.

Abstract: A display system includes a source of unpolarized image light, and a stack of polarization-selective optical elements operable to switchably convert the unpolarized image light into two orthogonally polarized light beams, each of which being switchable in at least one beam characteristic. An output polarizer selects one of the two orthogonally polarized light beams for providing to a user. Abstract: An optical waveplate is provided. The optical waveplate includes a first birefringent film including optically anisotropic molecules arranged to form a first twist structure. The optical waveplate also includes a second birefringent film including optically anisotropic molecules arranged to form a second twist structure, the second birefringent film being stacked with the first birefringent film. The optically anisotropic molecules at a first portion of the first birefringent film adjacent an interface between the first birefringent film and the second birefringent film are configured with a first azimuthal angle. The optically anisotropic molecules at a second portion of the second birefringent film adjacent the interface are configured with a second azimuthal angle. The first azimuthal angle is substantially the same as the second azimuthal angle.
