Abstract: With an electromagnetically operating setting device according to the principle of the spring-mass-oscillator, in particular to actuate control valves in displacement engines, the working stroke of the control element is varied by changing the position of the pole surface of a working magnet and the base of one or more springs of the spring system. To this end, a magnetic switching system serves to simultaneously change the distance of the pole surface and adapt the oscillation mid-point to the new position of the pole surface by changing the position of one or more spring bases. Furthermore, with this switching system the magnetic reluctances of one or both working magnets can also be changed.
