    Abstract: A system is disclosed in which an item of user equipment (UE) obtains a reference signal received power (RSRP) threshold value for transmitting a random access message (MsgA) comprising both a preamble part and a Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) transmission part. The UE obtains information identifying at least one respective offset associated with at least one priority level, and determines a type of random access procedure (two-step or legacy random access procedure) to be performed based on an RSRP measured by the UE, the RSRP threshold value, and a priority level associated with the UE.

    Abstract: A communication system is disclosed in which a communication device communicates with communication apparatus that operates a cell within which the communication device is located. The cell is operated as a licensed assisted access (LAA) cell and has an associated physical uplink control channel (PUCCH). The communication device has a controller that is adapted to: generate a control signal for transmitting to said communication apparatus; perform a clear channel assessment (CCA) on said PUCCH before the control signal is transmitted; and block transmission of the control signal on said PUCCH when said CCA indicates that said channel is not clear. The communication device is further adapted, when said controller has not blocked said transmission of the control signal, to transmit the control signal to said communication apparatus in said PUCCH.

    Abstract: A communication system is disclosed in which a communication device and a base station initially communicate using a first bandwidth. The communication device monitors for control data transmitted, by the base station, using a first control resource set conveyed in the first bandwidth. The communication device and the base station switch to using a second bandwidth, wherein the second bandwidth is different to the first bandwidth, and the communication device monitors for control data transmitted, by the base station, using a second control resource set that is conveyed in the second bandwidth.

    Abstract: A communication system is disclosed in which a base station manages the transmission of on-demand system information to optimise the trade-off between the additional signalling overhead associated with on-demand transmission and the resource usage inefficiencies associated with the sometimes unnecessary transmission of system information on a periodic basis. The base station manages switching from on-demand transmission to periodic transmission, and vice versa, based on one or more utilisation thresholds.
