Abstract:
A hydroxyapatite based bioresorbable material is incorporated with anti-cancer agents to form an implant used for treatment against cancer. Sustained release of the anti-cancer agents may be achieved after implantation at the targeted sites. The dosage of the anti-cancer agent, the microstructure, morphology, and composition of the bioresorbable material allow control of the release profile. The invented implant may be used for drug delivery, chemotherapy, or gene therapy.
Abstract:
The client portion of a distributed client-server network management system uses an interface designed with, and written in, a platform independent language, such as Java. This allows management application programs to be written in the platform independent language and insures their portability. The inventive interface caches most of the management information at the server so that only a small client program is necessary. This program can run on a system with minimal resources, thereby allowing a network manager to manage a network from virtually any location on the network. For example, the client management application could be written as a Java applet which could then be run on any Java-enabled browser. The inventive distributed management system can also connect with, and use, the services and structure of existing distributed network management systems.
Abstract:
Methods are provided for treating liquid hazardous waste containing anionic radioactive or heavy metal materials by binding the hazardous waste to hydroxyapatite powder, drying and then cold or hot pressing the hydroxyapatite powder into a solid mass for storage or disposal. The methods are useful for treatment and storage of radioactive waste, anions, and heavy metals. Methods are also provided for treating high concentration liquid hazardous waste and liquid hazardous waste which does not contain materials known to decompose at high temperatures.

A method and system for transmitting data in a wireless communications system using multiple transmit antennas. The method comprises the steps of receiving a plurality of data sequences, each assigned with a priority level; encoding each of said plurality of data sequences in accordance with the assigned priority level to form a plurality of coded data sequences, the coded data sequences comprising systematic data and parity data; interleaving said plurality of coded data sequences to form a plurality of interleaved data sequences; multiplexing said plurality of interleaved data sequences to form a plurality of multiplexed data sequences; and mapping said plurality of multiplexed data sequences to form a plurality of mapped data sequences for subsequent transmission of said mapped data sequences from said multiple transmit antennas.
Abstract:
A method and system for extracting Web content is disclosed. In one embodiment, Web content in a Webpage is extracted by identifying paragraphs in the Web content based on line-break node determination. A range of text-body associated with the identified paragraphs is then identified using a maximum scoring subsequence. Further, the identified text-body is refined using a heuristic rule of substantially horizontal alignment. Furthermore, one or more titles and one or more images associated with the Web content are extracted. Moreover, the Web content including the identified paragraphs, the one or more titles and the one or more images are outputted.

A UWB transmission apparatus that, in a system using a mixture of amplitude and phase modulation schemes, can support both of the amplitude and phase modulation schemes, while preventing the signal powers of amplitude-modulated signals from degrading. In this UWB transmission apparatus, if the modulation mode is of QPSK, a mapping part (121) selects one of four signal points on the IQ plane in accordance with a 2-bit data, and outputs information related to the I- and Q-components of the selected signal point to a QPSK/ASK modulated signal forming part (122). If the modulation mode is of ASK, the mapping part (121) selects the origin point on the IQ plane when the data being ‘0’ and selects one of four signal points on the IQ plane, similarly to the case of QPSK modulation, when the data being ‘1,’ and outputs information, which is related to the selected signal point, to the QPSK/ASK modulated signal forming part (122).

The method for data transmission includes receiving multiple input data streams and performing low density parity check (LDPC) encoding of the input data streams utilizing a parity check matrix. The parity check matrix comprises a plurality of sub-parity check matrices for encoding respective associated ones of the input data streams and performing space time encoding for transmitting the LDPC encoded input data streams over a plurality of antennas. The performing of the LDPC encoding of the input data streams includes generating one or more connection matrices, each connection matrix for injecting information of one of the input data streams into the encoding of another one of the input data streams. Each connection matrix is a zero matrix if a lowest parity check protection level based on the sub-parity check matrix for the one of the input data streams is equal to or lower than an assigned parity check protection level for the one input data stream, and a non zero matrix otherwise.
