A shutter for use in coverings for architectural openings having non-conventional geometries provides closure in both the room side up and room side down directions.
摘要:
A shutter is provided that utilizes a rack and pinion mechanism for tilting the louvers of the shutter. The rack and pinion mechanism preferably is hidden within the stiles of the shutter. In a preferred embodiment, the louvers of the shutter may be installed and removed without disassembling the assembled frame and rack and pinion mechanism.

A coupler for use with the tilt wand and pull cord of a window treatment system includes a cylindrical body having a longitudinal passageway adapted to receive the tilt wand and a pair of parallel longitudinal channels adapted to receive the pull cord. The longitudinal passageway communicates with an enlarged pocket adapted to receive a collar fixedly mounted to the tilt wand. The coupler encircles the tilt wand and is fixed to the tilt wand at a position along the length of the tilt wand to maintain a taut condition in the pull cord.

A light-blocking head-rail, and architectural coverings incorporating the headrail, include a light-blocking strip adapted to block out light. Embodiments of the light-blocking strip include bristles which tend to block substantially all of the light that might otherwise pass between a top surface of the headrail and a top beam of an architectural opening. The bristles can conform and fill in gaps between the top surface of the headrail and the top beam, and can further be compressed by a bracket connecting the headrail to the top beam of the architectural opening. Additional embodiments of the light-blocking strip are made from a flexible material that can be easily deflected and compressed when installed within an architectural opening.

A headrail designed for powered coverings for architectural openings comprises a housing defining an interior that conveniently hides a battery holder, a signal-receiving system, and an electric motor used to adjust the configuration of the covering. The headrail also hides improved hardware for mounting the motor and, in the case of coverings comprising tiltable elements, improved hardware for mounting a tilt rod. Additionally, in the case of coverings comprising tiltable elements, the headrail hides improved hardware for adjustably attaching the tiltable elements to the tilt rod in a manner that prevents over-rotation of the tiltable elements. The battery holder may comprise a battery magazine or a battery carrier removably mounted in the headrail housing. The batteries may be inserted into or extracted from the battery holder through an opening in a bottom wall of the headrail housing. A swingably mounted trap door may selectively cover or uncover the opening. The battery carrier slidingly engages, through the opening in the bottom of the headrail housing, a battery carrier housing that is mounted within the headrail housing. The signal-receiving system includes an exposed signal receiver for receipt of remote-control signals. The present invention also provides a tilt control system with an inexpensive and effective clutch to prevent over-winding of cords onto a control shaft (e.g., a tilt rod) used to control tiltable elements of the covering. The preferred tilt control system also minimizes torque on the motor or other mechanism used to drive the control shaft.

A universal bracket assembly for mounting one or more coverings for architectural opening is described. The bracket assembly includes an L-shaped base with a vertical leg and an elongated horizontal leg. The vertical leg has one or more holes passing through it to secure the L-shaped base to a vertical surface such as a wall. The horizontal leg has a plurality of openings disposed on it for mounting the headrails of various coverings to it. In a preferred embodiment an elongated horizontal extension plate is also provided which can be attached to the horizontal leg of the L-shaped base. The extension plate includes openings disposed on it for mounting headrails of coverings thereto. In one variation either or both of the L-shaped base and the extension plate have rules marked on their surfaces so that a user can easily align the headrail between associated bracket assemblies.

Various systems for attaching flexible fabric material to rigid vanes in the construction of window coverings are disclosed. The various systems for attaching the fabric material to the vanes create varying aesthetic patterns while providing long-term durability. The systems described can be used to connect single or double sheets of fabric material to the faces of rigid vanes while enabling the vanes to be oriented vertically or horizontally.

A method and a clip for securing a slat of a venetian blind to its supporting ladder cord rungs, thereby preventing the slat so secured from not following the remaining slats when they are tilted.
摘要:
A Venetian-style window blind (10) that resembles plantation style shutters is described. In a preferred embodiment, the headrail is shaped like the plurality of slats depending from it, is pivotally connected to the sides of a window frame by mounting brackets and has a hollow interior. Tilting of the plurality slats depending from the headrail is accomplished by vertically moving an actuator rod that is pivotally connected to the headrail. The plurality of slats are suspended from the headrail by a cord ladder to tilt in unison with the headrail. While tilting the blind assembly into the closed position, the headrail and depending slats also slide inwardly towards the windowpane. The slats are lifted through the actuation of a lift handle that is slidably attached to the actuator rod and contains therein a lock mechanism to hold the slats in a desired position.
摘要:
A louver braking mechanism for use in shutters, used to hold the louvers in place against the moment arm resulting from the weight of the tilt bar urging the louvers to close. The disclosed mechanisms provide a frictional resistance to the louver pivotal movement, which must be overcome by the user in order to reposition the louvers. In a preferred embodiment, the frictional resistance increases as the louver begins to pivot.
