    摘要: A quadrature coil for receiving NMR signals in magnetic resonance imaging employs as few as two substantially coplanar overlapping loops having sensitivity along perpendicular lines in a region of sensitivity. Each loop is sensitive to a fluctuating uniform magnetic field but is decoupled by a decoupling network. A common ground point shared between the two loops allows the combination of the signals produced by the two loops with a hybrid combiner without the coupling of the loops through the signal's grounds. A third loop may be added to the two loops to produce a third signal to further improve the signal-to-noise ratio of the coil.

    摘要: A RF transmit coil decoupling circuit in a parallel drive configuration comprises a power amplifier and an output matching network to shim the B1 field in response to inhomogeneities therein. The separate coil segments in a transmit array are effectively decoupled from each other despite inherent mutual inductance between coil segments by the decoupling circuit. The output matching network forms a high impedance block seen by the coil elements, while it provides a load line impedance at the output of the power amplifier. The transmission line transformer in the output matching network suppresses higher order harmonics for clearer RF wave forms. It also dampen the Q factor of the output matching network allowing stable operation with a series tuned coil element.

    摘要: An RF coil assembly is presented that incorporates balun networks to eliminate standing waves from cables used to apply a voltage to multiple drive ports of the coil. Each drive port is driven by an applied voltage that is shifted 90 degrees in the tangential direction. Further, all drive ports are located on one end-ring of the coil, e.g. the superior end-ring. The inequality of the efficiency of the drive ports is reduced such that a substantially circular polarization in the volume of the coil is maintained. The present invention reduces asymmetrical loading by a patient as a result of patient asymmetry and patient contact with the opposite end-ring of the coil that normally negatively affects circular polarization and conventional coil configurations.

    摘要: A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) coil system is provided which comprises an RF coil element comprising a plurality of electrically conductive members spaced to form a generally tubular structure and defining an imaging volume. The coil element is adapted to receive a RF signal and apply a magnetic field to the imaging volume. A signal generator generates the RF signal, and a power splitter is adapted to distribute the RF signal across each of the plurality of electrically conductive members in signals of equal power. A phase shifter receives the split signals from the signal splitter and equally phase shifts each of the split RF signals across each of the plurality of electrically conductive members such that each conductor carries the signal at a different phase angle with respect to each other conductor. An amplifier is coupled to each of the conductors for independently controlling the current amplitude of the signal carried on the respective conductor.

    摘要: A radio frequency (RF) coil system for resonance imaging/analysis comprising a primary coil element having a plurality of axial conductors spaced to form a generally tubular structure having two ends and defining a coil volume, and a first pair of spoiler coils. The first pair of spoiler coils each comprising a plurality of axial conductors spaced to form a generally tubular structure and defining a coil volume. Each of the spoiler coils is positioned adjacent to and overlapping an end of the primary coil. Each of the primary and spoiler coils is also adapted to carry an RF signal, wherein the signal in the spoiler coils is 180 degrees out of phase with the signal in the primary coil. The counter-phased spoiler coils act to rapidly drive down the RF magnetic field generated by the primary coil in the region of the ends of the primary coil to reduce the occurrence of aliasing artifacts from outside the imaging field of view.

    摘要: The present invention comprises a whole body RF coil system for use with an open magnetic resonance (MR) imaging system. The RF coil system comprises first and second quadrature RF coil sets positioned on opposing sides of an imaging volume. Each RF coil set comprises similarly-structured, multiple RF coils. Each quadrature RF coil comprises a first and second plurality of primary path conductor segments, and first and second return path conductors, symmetrically disposed about a centerline at specified distances. The first and second plurality of primary path conductor segments are positioned in a first plane that is substantially spaced apart from a second plane, further from the imaging volume, containing the first and second return path conductors. The conductors within each of the first and second set of primary path conductor segments are adapted to have a predetermined current amplitude ratio. Upon energization of the first and second RF coil sets in quadrature to generate a circular, polarized B1 field, the positioning of the conductors and the predetermined current amplitude ratio provide a desired homogeneity within the imaging volume and a desired sensitivity drop-off outside of the imaging volume.
