A paging controller for a paging communication system exchanges information by a global multiplexed bus arrangement. The bus arrangement permits voice, data and control information to be exchanged between a common memory and a plurality of I/O modules in a common communication bus. The timing signals of the bus arrangement including the I/O modules are synchronized to expeditiously exchange information among the modules. In operation, each module has a preassigned address representative of a sequence number in a predetermined succession order to permit each module to access the bus.

A spread spectrum communications system includes an antenna array for receiving different summations of desired and undesired signals, and receivers are coupled to the antenna array. Each receiver operates based upon a respective channel code for de-spreading the desired and undesired signals for determining at least one desired signal associated with the respective channel code, and for combining the at least one desired signal and the undesired signals after the de-spreading. A processor is coupled to the receivers for forming a mixing matrix based upon the combined signals from each receiver, with entries on a diagonal of the mixing matrix corresponding to the desired signals and entries adjacent the diagonal corresponding to the undesired signals. The processor also processes the mixing matrix so that a level of the desired signals increases and a level of the undesired signals decreases. A demodulator is coupled to the processor for demodulating at least one desired signal.

Each mobile wireless communications device transmits a source signal defined by a respective character set comprising a plurality of symbols. At least one of the symbols in the respective character sets is transmitted at a different power level so that the transmitted source signal from each mobile wireless communications device appears with linearly independent power level time periods. The linearly independent power level time periods are used by the fixed receiver assembly to populate a mixing matrix for signal separation processing.

A method for making an antenna array includes dividing a flexible dielectric substrate into a plurality of folding sections, with each folding section being integrally connected to an adjacent folding section along a shared boundary therebetween. The folding sections are co-planar with one another when unfolded and include spaced apart antenna sections, spaced apart ground plane sections and connecting sections therebetween. An antenna element is formed on each antenna section. The antenna elements are coplanar with the antenna sections, the ground plane sections and the connecting sections. The folding sections of the flexible dielectric substrate are folded along the shared boundaries so that the antenna sections extend in a different plane with respect to the ground plane sections.

The invention enhances channel correction techniques for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems so that higher effective data rates can be achieved with a minimal processing load. OFDM channel values determined due to known sequences in one domain can be used to seed solution matrices for channel value determination in other domains. This method can be applied to multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems in order to deal with signal distortion while maintaining a reasonable processor loading profile. In another embodiment, a method to optimize channel partitioning during channel estimation processing in an ultra-wide band (UWB) OFDM wireless communications network includes creating a plurality of windows across a time-frequency channel plane, adaptively sizing the plurality of windows, and merging the plurality of windows.
