Abstract: A roof airbag for a vehicle longitudinally extends along a length between first and second longitudinal ends and laterally extends along a width between first and second lateral sides. An inlet for receiving inflation gases is provided at the first longitudinal end. A plenum is in fluid communication with the inlet for receiving the inflation gases from the inlet. The roof airbag includes a plurality of primary inflatable chambers, each primary inflatable chamber in fluid communication with the plenum to receive inflation gases from the plenum. A plurality of secondary inflatable chambers is in indirect fluid communication with the plenum to receive inflation gases indirectly from the plenum through the plurality of primary inflatable chambers. The primary inflatable chambers of the plurality of primary inflatable chambers are arranged to first drive deployment of the airbag and subsequently inflate the second inflatable chambers of the plurality of second inflatable chambers to tension the airbag in the lateral direction. The primary and secondary inflatable chambers cooperate to provide a barrier between occupants of the vehicle and the roof frame.

Abstract: Airbag assemblies, such as inflatable curtain airbag assemblies, comprising integrated fastener/stiffener pieces, such as stiffener plates combined with pushpins extending therefrom. Abstract: A housing for storing an inflatable airbag includes a first portion and a second portion that cooperate to at least partially define a chamber for storing the inflatable airbag. A hinge portion connects the first portion to the second portion such that the second portion is pivotable about the hinge portion from a closed position for retaining the inflatable airbag within the chamber to an open position for deployment of the inflatable airbag from the chamber. A sacrificial seam connects the first portion and the second portion when the inflatable airbag is stored within the chamber. The sacrificial seam includes a plurality of connection members breakable in response to a pressure from within the chamber from initial inflation of the inflatable airbag. The connection members each extend across the sacrificial seam in a first direction between the first and second portions of the housing and are configured to have a predetermined failure area adjacent one of the first portion and the second portion.

Abstract: Seat centric airbag restraint systems having pelvis restraint features, along with related methods. In some implementations, a first seat-mounted airbag cushion may be deployed along a first side of a vehicle occupant and a second seat-mounted airbag cushion may be deployed along a second side of the vehicle occupant. A first pelvis restraint chamber may be deployed below the first seat-mounted airbag cushion at an angle relative to the first seat-mounted airbag cushion and towards a first upper thigh of the vehicle occupant. The first pelvis restraint chamber may inhibit forward translation of the vehicle occupant within a vehicle seat by tensioning the pelvis region of the occupant.

In addition, the pretensioner rod forms a recessed portion or a recessed section to facilitate engaging with the sprocket during pretensioning.

Abstract: A dual stage inflator includes a housing defining an internal cavity including a combustion chamber. The combustion chamber includes a first portion having a first gas generant material separated from a second portion having a second gas generant material. A gas generant retaining wall is disposed in the housing. A first stage ignition device is disposed in the first portion of the combustion chamber. A second stage ignition device is disposed in the second portion of the combustion chamber. A lid normally closes the second portion of the combustion chamber and is spaced from the gas generant retaining wall. The lid is moveable to an open position opening the second portion of the internal cavity to release combustion gas and abutting the gas generant retaining wall in response to an increase of pressure within the second portion of the combustion chamber. An outer side of the lid and the adjacent side of the gas generant retaining wall are cooperatively configured to allow a flow of combustion gas between the gas generant retaining wall and the lid when the lid abuts the gas generant retaining wall in the open position.
