    摘要: An improvement in refrigeration assemblies for use in conjunction with cooler structures in which food products are preserved in which an assembly of unitary, modular construction is utilized to selectively provide the refrigeration of the air mass. The assembly can be air defrosted by arranging for the flow through of ambient air to defrost the evaporator coils. At the same time, the flow of ambient air can be blocked against entry into the refrigerated air mass by the use of movable baffles. Cover gates are arranged on the assembly to permit the through flow of ambient air during the defrost cycle of operation.The refrigeration assemblies can be employed for retrofitting and on an interchangeable basis for structures to be refrigerated.

    摘要: An island refrigerated display case can be constructed so as to in effect constitute to back-to-back display cases that can be arranged as a separate aisle within a supermarket. Such an island refrigerated display case has two interior display spaces separated by a partition wall with each display space having its own access opening so as to enable refrigerated products to be removed from that portion of the case. Encircling each of the interior display spaces is an associated refrigeration air conduit. Each of the refrigeration air conduits has an inlet and outlet opening positioned so as to direct air across the corresponding access opening for the interior display space. Thus during the refrigeration cycle of operation, a refrigerated air curtain is formed between the corresponding outer wall and the center partition wall so as to extend across the associated access opening. The portions of the refrigeration air conduits that extend through the partition wall can be joined so as to form a single chamber. In this manner, the evaporator coils can be located either along each of the refrigeration air conduits or in the central chamber within the partition wall. The island display cases are defrosted by an ambient air defrost system in which ambient air is drawn into and circulated through the refrigeration air conduits for defrosting any frost buildup within such conduits.

    摘要: A refrigerated display case for displaying refrigerated products. The display case is formed in a cabinet that has an interior area for holding the refrigerated products. The cabinet has an access opening either in its top wall or its front wall for enabling access to the refrigerated products. A first air conduit extends around the cabinet and has inlet and outlet air openings for directing air across the access opening in the cabinet. During a refrigeration cycle of operation, the air traveling through the first air conduit is refrigerated by a set of evaporator coils. A second air conduit extends partially around the cabinet along a path lying outwardly of the first air conduit. The second air conduit has an outlet opening positioned adjacent to the outlet opening of the first air conduit. During the refrigeration cycle, air is emitted from the outlet opening of the second air conduit along a path across the access opening of the cabinet but lying outwardly of the air emitted from the outlet opening of the first air conduit. The inlet opening of the second air conduit is positioned so as to open into the first air conduit at a location after the air has passed through the air circulating mechanism but before the air has passed through the evaporator coils. This display case can be operated either in a refrigeration mode of operation where the air is circulated in a forward direction through the first and second air conduits with the air passing through the first conduit being refrigerated or a defrost mode of operation where ambient air is circulated through the first and second air conduits in a reverse direction. During the defrost mode of operation, ambient air is drawn through the outlet openings into the first and second air conduits. The ambient air passing through the second air conduit helps to transfer heat to the air passing through the first air conduit and to the evaporator coils both by means of conduction and convection so as to assist in the defrosting of the evaporator coils.

    摘要: A refrigerated glass door merchandiser in which heat generated during a defrost cycle of operation is prevented from flowing into the refrigerated display section. The glass door merchandiser is formed by a cabinet having an access opening in one of its walls with a glass door covering such access opening. The glass door is movable for enabling access through the access opening to products within the display section of the merchandiser. An air conduit extends around the cabinet and has an outlet opening at one end of the access opening and an inlet opening at the other end of the access opening. The outlet and inlet openings are arranged in alignment so that air circulated through the conduit and leaving the outlet opening is directed towards and received by the inlet opening for establishing a continuous air band around the cabinet and across the access opening during a refrigeration cycle of operation. As the air is circulated by a set of fans which are arranged in the air conduit, the air is refrigerated by a set of evaporator coils. During a defrost cycle of operation, both the air flow and the operation of the evaporator coils are temporarily terminated. Heat is applied in the area of the evaporator coils during the defrost cycle of operation for defrosting the coils. Since there is a natural tendency for such heat to rise by convection, the heat would eventually reach the interior of the display case. A heat trap mechanism is provided within the air conduit at a location subsequent to that of the evaporator coils along the flow path in order to prevent such flow of heat by convection during the defrost cycle of operation.

    摘要: A refrigerated display case having at least two outlet air conduits with a unitary grid member covering the outlet openings of such conduits. The display case is formed by a cabinet having an interior display space for holding refrigerated products. A primary air conduit encircles the cabinet and has an outlet opening at one end adjacent to an access opening in the cabinet and an inlet opening at its other end adjacent to the access opening. The inlet and outlet openings of the primary air conduit are aligned so that air leaving the outlet opening is directed across the access opening of the cabinet and received by the inlet opening. A set of evaporator coils are arranged within the primary air conduit for refrigerating the air passing through such conduits. The air is circulated through the primary air conduit by a set of fans. A secondary air conduit extends along the cabinet and is positioned outside of the primary air conduit. The secondary air conduit has an outlet opening for directing air across the access opening of the cabinet. The outlet opening of the secondary air conduit is aligned with and positioned adjacent to the outlet opening of the primary air conduit. A unitary grid member extends across the outlet opening of the primary air conduit and the outlet opening of the secondary air conduit. Due to the temperature differential between the air emitted from the outlet openings there is normally a tendency for condensation to accumulate at the juncture of the two outlet openings. In order to minimize and substantially eliminate such condensation and any resulting frost buildup, in insulating member separates the two air conduits and is either in contact with or actually extended into the unitary grid structure.

    摘要: A refrigeration system employing ambient air defrost and a method of operating such a system. The refrigeration system includes a cabinet having an opening in one of its walls, for enabling access to products in the interior of the cabinet. Extending along the walls of the cabinet are an inner, primary air conduit and an outer, secondary air conduit. The primary air conduit contains a plurality of fans for circulating the air along the conduit and a mechanism for refrigerating air passing through the conduit during a refrigeration cycle. The air circulated through the primary conduit forms a closed primary air band. A plurality of second fans are arranged within the secondary air conduit and during a refrigeration cycle circulate air through the conduit, thereby establishing a closed secondary air band during the refrigeration cycle. When the system is to be defrosted, the refrigeration mechanism is deactivated so that the air passing along the primary air conduit is not refrigerated. In addition, the secondary fans in the secondary air conduit are turned off and the primary fans in the primary conduit are operated so as to cause a greater quantity of air to pass along the primary air conduit. During the defrost mode of operation, the primary air fans tend to draw in ambient air from outside of the cabinet thereby providing warmer air for circulation through the primary air conduit which serves to defrost the refrigeration mechanism.

    摘要: An improved upright open front refrigerated display cabinet having primary and secondary air flow conduits, in which air flow directing means are provided for selectively drawing ambient air into the secondary air band conduit during a defrost cycle and for substantially preventing ambient air from entering the secondary conduit during a refrigeration cycle and for directing the flow of air through the secondary conduit in a first direction during the refrigeration cycle and in a second direction, substantially opposite the first direction, during the defrost cycle. Fans are provided in each of the primary and secondary conduits; the direction of air flow in the primary conduit remains constant at all times, during both refrigeration and defrost cycles. The secondary band fans propel air in a first direction (codirectional with air flow in the primary conduit) during the refrigeration cycle and in a second direction, substantially opposite the first direction during the defrost cycle whereby the ambient air is mixed with air propelled by primary fans in the primary conduit. Finally, means are provided for diverting air from the secondary conduit to the primary conduit during the defrost cycle and for substantially preventing the diversion of air from the secondary conduit to the primary conduit during the refrigeration cycle.
