    摘要: A refrigerated display case having at least two outlet air conduits with a unitary grid member covering the outlet openings of such conduits. The display case is formed by a cabinet having an interior display space for holding refrigerated products. A primary air conduit encircles the cabinet and has an outlet opening at one end adjacent to an access opening in the cabinet and an inlet opening at its other end adjacent to the access opening. The inlet and outlet openings of the primary air conduit are aligned so that air leaving the outlet opening is directed across the access opening of the cabinet and received by the inlet opening. A set of evaporator coils are arranged within the primary air conduit for refrigerating the air passing through such conduits. The air is circulated through the primary air conduit by a set of fans. A secondary air conduit extends along the cabinet and is positioned outside of the primary air conduit. The secondary air conduit has an outlet opening for directing air across the access opening of the cabinet. The outlet opening of the secondary air conduit is aligned with and positioned adjacent to the outlet opening of the primary air conduit. A unitary grid member extends across the outlet opening of the primary air conduit and the outlet opening of the secondary air conduit. Due to the temperature differential between the air emitted from the outlet openings there is normally a tendency for condensation to accumulate at the juncture of the two outlet openings. In order to minimize and substantially eliminate such condensation and any resulting frost buildup, in insulating member separates the two air conduits and is either in contact with or actually extended into the unitary grid structure.

    摘要: An open top refrigerated display case having an ambient air automatic defrost system and a method of operating such a case. A single air conduit extends in a U-shaped formation along opposing side walls and the bottom wall of the display case. The air conduit has openings at both ends in the location of the upper portions of the side walls. Arranged within the air conduit is at least one reversible fan and a set of refrigeration coils. During a refrigeration cycle the fan circulates air through the air conduit in a first direction towards the refrigeration coils. When frost buildup within the display case has reached a certain level, the system is switched to a defrost cycle. During the defrost cycle, the fan circulates the air in the opposite direction through the air conduit and draws in ambient air from outside of the display case. Since such ambient air is of a higher temperature than the normally refrigerated air, it serves to defrost the system. The ambient air, after passing over the evaporator coils and through the air conduit, is expelled from the air conduit in a direction towards the outer side of the refrigerated case and away from the interior of the case.

The barrier cover can be arranged as a unitary assembly which can be manufactured and sold separately from the display cabinet as a retrofit device to effect energy savings.The flexible barrier cover can be stored in a reeled-up position or can be arranged as a folded flexible barrier which can be fanned out across the access opening. Various traction means are provided for moving the flexible barrier across the access opening.

During such defrost cycle of operation, the air leaving the air conduit is directed and supplied with a sufficient momentum so that such air travels along a path over the opposing side wall of the display case so that the air does not reenter the air conduit.

    摘要: A well type open top refrigerated display case has a primary air conduit extending around the cabinet and main fans for circulating air through the primary conduit and across the open top of the cabinet in the form of an air curtain. A column extends upwardly from and above the well type region; defrost fans are located in a defrost conduit in the column. Defrost control means are provided for energizing the defrost fans at the start of a defrost cycle to draw ambient air from above the refrigerated display case into the upper portion of the defrost conduit at a higher pressure than the air pressure in the region of the open top; a portion of the higher pressure ambient air is directed out of the defrost conduit to collide with the air curtain flowing across the open top, the flow of the air curtain being thereby reversed and caused to flow over the top of and outside the display case. A further portion of ambient air is drawn downwardly by the main fans to flow through the primary conduit and assist in defrosting the coils.

A hot gas defrost system is included to rapidly obtain a high operating defrost gas pressure upon the initiation of a defrost cycle and to thereafter maintain an adequate pressure for hot gas defrosting of the evaporators. The hot gas defrost system includes a differential pressure regulated valve which closes the compressor discharge line to shunt the hot gas discharge directly into a hot gas defrost manifold. The differential valve is controlled by a defrost control means. The refrigeration system can also include a receiver tank and a by-pass conduit for shunting refrigerant liquid through the by-pass conduit rather than through the receiver tank depending upon operating conditions. A method of operating a closed circuit refrigeration system with the above features is set forth.

The auxiliary gas have pressure-temperature-enthalpy conditions located in the superheated region or the saturation envelope area of a pressure-enthalpy diagram within these temperature limits. The use of low temperature refrigerant gas in the auxiliary flow line avoids heater line warping and buckling and customer inconvenience and discomfort problems which are incurred by use of high temperature compressor refrigerant gas.
