Abstract: An alarm device which automatically activates a patrol car horn, siren, emergency lights, and/or voice annunciator on a public address loud speaker upon the unauthorized release of a seat belt by a detainee. A relay and control switch are installed in conjunction with the existing seat belt switch circuit underneath a patrol car seat such that they are undetectable by an occupant. After the seat belt is engaged by an officer, the officer may activate a control switch to arm the alarm. Subsequently, if the detainee releases the seat belt, the relay is activated which provides power to the patrol car horn, siren, or lights. This not only warns the officer, who may be outside and far away from the patrol car, but also may startle the would-be escapee. The alarm may be employed in a front passenger seat, as well as in either rear passenger seat.

Abstract: A restraint system for restraining a lower body portion of an individual within a seat including a rigid member configured to selectively restrain the lower body portion such that the lower body portion of the individual is movable only within a predefined area of movement. The rigid member is mounted to the seat and is capable of movement between a stowed position and a deployed position. The lower body portion is restrained by the rigid member when in the deployed position. A locking mechanism locks the rigid member in the stowed position and the deployed position. A release mechanism is associated with the locking mechanism. The release mechanism is located at a predetermined distance from the locking mechanism such that the release mechanism is located outside of the area of movement.

Abstract: A supplemental restraint system that is mountable to the frame of a stationary structure, such as a police station or other building, to secure a prisoner in a seated position. The supplemental restraint system includes a restraint bar that is pivotally supported on the mounting plate for movement between a raised inoperative position and a lowered operative position. A locking mechanism secures the restraint bar in any selected lowered position and includes an actuation lever for selectively releasing the locking mechanism to permit the restraint bar to be raised for release of the prisoner. A spring mechanism biases the restraint bar toward a raised position so that the restraint bar can be moved upwardly while the police officer is outside of the police vehicle. Mounting plates can be utilized to secure the supplemental restraint system to the floor structure and an adjacent wall structure.

Abstract: A supplemental prisoner restraint system is mountable to the frame of a police car to secure a prisoner in a seated position. The supplemental restraint system includes a mounting plate that is secured to the frame, a restraint bar that is pivotally supported on the mounting plate for movement between a raised inoperative position and a lowered operative position, and a locking mechanism that secures the restraint bar in any selected lowered position. Abstract: A contoured vehicle seat back and a belt restraint which cooperate to safely secure and immobilize a rearwardly handcuffed prisoner for transport is disclosed. The contoured seat back includes a pair of downwardly converging channels therein for receiving and engaging the arms of the occupant. A central lower pocket for receiving the cuffed hands of the occupant is recessed into the seat back proximate the lower extremities of the channels. The belt restraint includes a cinching handle detachably mounted to the seat belt latching mechanism which can be detached from the latching mechanism and used to tighten the seat belt urging the occupant into engagement with the contoured seat back.
