    摘要： A racetrack convertible guardrail is disclosed herein which includes a plurality of spaced apart upright curved posts or stanchions. The curved posts or stanchions serve to support a racetrack rail which can be formed of metal or wood. Overlying the rail and the stanchions are a continuous number of sheets interfacing with each other to cover the stanchions and the rail for protection of a rider and a horse. Underlying the rail, stanchions and the protective cover is a second rail in the form of tubing or other rail forms supported by a hinged arm that can be utilized for sulky racing. The rail forms are supported by means of collars that are in turn supported by the hinged arm that underlies the stanchion. The collar and the tubing or rail forms can be connected to another form of stanchion that has a stake for supporting the stanchion, rail and tubing with the collars for purposes of grass racing and which can be removed by moving said stake and other components of the rail.

    摘要： A bracket comprises a thin piece of rigid material having two parallel bends to form a bottom or rest on which the lower edge of a board or rail is to be placed, a side generally at a right angle to the rest to extend vertically up the side of the board, and an opposite side slanting upwardly and having an opening through which a steel post is to extend. Positioning a board between the vertical side and lugs of a steel post retains the slanting side in position to cause an edge of the rest to bear against flanges of the post and to be supported on a lug. Before a board is placed in the bracket, the side that is normally vertical is tipped until its upper edge contacts the flanges to place the opening toward a horizontal direction for allowing space for the rest to clear the lugs as the bracket is moved along the post.

    摘要： A fence is disclosed having posts with grooves which receive an enclosure or sleeve into which the fence rail end portions are inserted. The enclosure or sleeve may be held by a retaining bolt which passes through the post at the location of the groove in the exterior surface of the post. The post may be made of subsequently hardening settable material such as concrete. In such case the post may have a centrally cast rod with a bolt secured at right angles to the rod so as to protrude out of the surface of the post. Alternatively, the bolt may pass completely through the post and the enclosure or sleeve.

    摘要： An environmentally responsible system and method of reusing discarded guardrail materials to provide affordable, high-strength barriers and fencing. Discarded guardrails, guardrail posts, and guardrail blockouts are resized and reconfigured to provide barriers for use in alternative applications, such as agrifencing, where the high-strength, durability, and low cost of these formerly DOT-approved guardrail materials provide superior performance to wood and thin metal barriers. The invention also greatly increases the return on investment of state DOTs by providing an aftermarket for used guardrail materials, thereby allowing state DOTs to recover much of the initial costs, which can then be used to offset future costs in order facilitate more highway improvement projects.
